Subject: Why do people start new threads instead of searching first?

Here are some possible personality traits or tendencies behind it:
    1. Impulsiveness / Low Conscientiousness
Some people just act without thinking it through. They don’t want to take the time to search—they’d rather post and be done with it.
    2. Entitlement / Egocentrism
They assume their question is unique or somehow more important, so they don’t bother seeing if others have asked the same thing.
    3. Low Openness to Experience
These users may not like exploring unfamiliar threads or don’t feel comfortable digging through older discussions.
    4. Impatience / Need for Instant Gratification
Searching takes effort. Posting a new thread feels faster and more direct, even if it clutters the forum.
    5. Inexperience or Forum Illiteracy
Not exactly a personality trait, but some users genuinely don’t know how forums work or don’t understand etiquette like “search before posting.”
    6. Assertiveness / Social Dominance
Some folks are just more inclined to initiate rather than blend in. They may feel more confident starting new threads than joining existing ones.
    7. External Locus of Control
They might not see it as their job to check for existing info—they expect others (mods, regulars) to steer them if needed.

Wow, I'm so honored. Copilot recognizes my brilliant contributions I don't even know myself.

This thread has turned into some great reads.

    Ouch Bro. Definitely number 1.

In my defense, I put "(2025)".

Investigate how the NBA lottery is rigged.

Copilot controlled by Adam Silver confirmed.

    That's Copliot, not ChatGPT. I followed @JuanValdez suggestion. :)

These AI characterizations of CF posters are pretty sloppy IMO. A lot of it sounds made up. Makes me questions the validity of their other takes.

I agree. Copilot is a lot better than ChatGPT (which I think maybe isn't able to differentiate the statements I make in my own post from other statements made by other posters on the same page) for bbs conversations, but still not that great. Though it makes me feel like I do when I read a news article about something I know a lot about, like my own industry -- I say to myself, if they can be persuasively this wrong about the things I know about, how wrong are they about the things I know less about? If the FBI was to use AI to get a summary of my political views, for example, to inform their investigations of me, how badly astray will they be led? But we do know AI hallucinates all the time. You can't just take its word for it.
