Positives - shutout avoided - run-diff not hurt too badly -- offense didn't roll over - Diaz continues his major surge - Dezenzo, Aircraft, and Jake continue their good recent production - bullpen ballin... 0 runs / 6.2 IP... they were ~2.92 ERA entering the game and one of the best in the majors - Hader/Abreu/King got rest !!! Negatives - Gusto, he's still project. Game was basically lost by the 4th inning from a team who scored 4 total runs vs BOS the previous series. - More bases loaded wack outcomes. Paredes isn't even immune. He had his first AB this season in said situation and not only got himself out, but took a teammate down with him (DP). _____ Disappointing loss, but still opportunity to win the series. Framber tomorrow, then figure out Wednesday. Perhaps Yordan returns -- he was hitting in the cage earlier today. Regardless, the offense hasn't been the main problem since his DNPs. LMJ and Gusto won't pitch tomorrow or Wednesday, so at least there's that.
Wonder what the record is for most scoreless relief innings thrown in a season…Houston might have a shot this year.
this team need to figure out the bases loaded situation. i genuinely thinks it's the the only thing missing for this offense.
Most importantly on the positive side is we at least made them use their leverage arms including the closer.
Is there anyone worse in MLB that is worse than us when we have bases loaded? We suck................I give them kudos for scoring 5 but we keep getting so far down in the first few innings we can't muster enough offense to get out of the hole........................man, this team is hard to watch. I have faith Walker will come around but dam, 1st base is where older players come to suck
Diaz and Walker have gotten right, and I suspect Yordan will be right shortly after he comes back. The offense over the next month should really tell us where the need is and how bad it is.
All signs are moving in the correct direction except the wins and losses. It's a long season and I can't put my finger on it, but there is something missing outside of the obvious bases loaded ongoing issues. I don't know what it is, but something is just not right. The whole is not as great as the sum.
I agree, and I think it’s chemistry. I don’t think Espada is a manager who can create chemistry on his own, and I think Bregman (and Correa and Springer and Yuli and Brantley and JV and…) contributed a lot to the winning culture Houston has had, and it finally reached a tipping point losing Bregman where there’s something missing. I do really like what I’ve seen from Walker in terms of public-facing culture, and I think he’s a winner and will contribute to improving the Astros culture as long as he’s productive on the field. I don’t think Paredes goes very far in that regard but he’s been good enough on the field that it doesn’t matter (much like Tucker). Guys like Smith and Dezenzo are too consumed with adapting to the big leagues to really help set the tone of the culture, but with Smith especially, I think once he gets established I think he will be very good for the culture. Adding a dynamic player at 2B (whether Matthews or a a trade acquisition) could also help. All that is to say that I agree with you that something is missing but that for now I am hopeful that it is a temporary void.
Nice point. It coincides with the "offense didn't roll over" statement. It's great we forced their leverage guys, but the most important thing is our hitters are beginning to hit because offense will effect the season far more than whether or not certain KC relievers are available the next 48 hours.
I agree that this team has lost a lot off the field and it is just adding up. Bregman is just the latest, but with each subtraction it hurts worse. If you have $1000 in savings. Windshield breaks $150 You lose your glasses $100 Kid gets sick and trip to quick care -$25 copay. Medicine- $25 Coffee pot dies -$100 A/C goes out -$150 Now you only have $450 and you need new tires. You were putting away $100 per paycheck, but recently you have only been able to put away $25.
It would help if Christian Walker bats lower to 9th. He is the worst hitter and very negative after getting struck out making faces, cussing. Keep quiet. The Astros made a mistake on him.
