You guys still actually pay for dates? That's like being a John who's willing to accept lower odds on the same return.

I always appreciated when a guy would pay for the first one just to be a gentleman. (though, if you date after that, you should start alternating or splitting the bills... unless you want to perform the money-for-services transaction suggested by thadeus, and if you're the woman, you know what that makes you)

Once upon a time in Houston, I wanted to impress a guy (whom I was already in a relationship with) on our school's "date night" but didn't have much money. So we got dressed up, went to a slightly nicer than normal restaurant, and then I just took him around town to see various neat sights like fountains, etc.

Sounds like a good idea - in fact, if you're the guy, you should do this. She will appreciate the effort and think it's creative. If you're the girl, you should not do this. (that is, be the one who initiates the date) I guess, for some reason, it just isn't meant to be that way. Try to be nice to a guy like that and he will just end up taking you for granted. He will never try to impress you again. :(

Movies are a bad idea for a date - there's no interaction between you for two hours.

Find out what activities she likes to do (rock climbing? golf?, etc) and go do one of them toegether.

Dave & Busters is okay, I guess.

I did the fountain-tour thing with a girlfriend years ago and, like Isabel said, it was fun.

I recommend a medium-priced dinner at a decent restaurant (not a chain). Hickory Hollow, 59 diner, Fuzzy's pizza. Fancy dinners don't really impress much and don't give you much return on your investment, and cheap dinners give a bad impression.

No matter what you do, you must be a little bit of a jerk to her. Chicks stay away from "nice guys" and flock to a$$holes - you must be a bit of a jerk.

    All but Free:

    Parks, Pools, Beaches

    Bikeride, Rollerblading, Volleyball.

Invite her to a poker tournament and then take all her money.

    Kite Flying

A bookstore can be a cheap date too. You get coffee, chat, then let her show you her favorite books. You have plenty of subjects to talk about in a bookstore too.

    Gardens, Arboretums, Sculpture Gardens

Another date could be to tour the expensive open houses that people are seilling. Totally Free. Pretend you are a couple interested in buying and play along.

The Zoo is probably cheap. Many times Free

    Birdfeeding

    Applepicking

    Streetracing

    carjacking and joyriding.

    ok. I'm done.

The zoo made me think of the Japanese gardens at the Herman park. On a nice fall day put together a simple picnic lunch- food to go from Cafe Express- easy - she picks what she likes.

it's not how much money you spend, it's how much fun you will have. forget trying to impress her with the fancy dinner. if she thinks she's too good for mcdonald's, then she's too high maintenanced. as a matter of fact, make her feel she has to impress YOU.

I like to MST3K movies with my dates (nothing loud or obnoxious, but one of my little comments every once in a while). It separates the gals that can stand me for who I am, and those that can't. Of course, half of that scale is sitting on the ground, but I digress.

wow, these are some great ideas.

tourning the fountains sounds awesome....but where are they? i know of just the waterwall by the galleria.

bleh....thats a tough one. not trying to hard to impress a girl is hard enough to do, let alone being a bit of a jerk.

    "Gardens, Arboretums, Sculpture Gardens"

where would some places like this be?

thanks for all the suggestions yall.

if i do well on this first date with her, maybe ill be able to try out all the suggestions yall gave in more dates later.

    especially this one

'Play a little Barry White to set the mood and get ready for some lovin "
