The Jalen Green Experience [TLDR] Positives: Green's got mad skills, crossing over defenders with ease and showing promise in shooting. He's a hard worker, listens to coaches, and knows where he needs to improve. Despite being young, he's fearless and coachable, with no big ego issues. Negatives/Unexpected: Struggles against taller defenders and needs to work on defense and strength. Expectations and Growth: Despite a slow start, there's hope for improvement. Coaches are focusing on basics first, aiming to mold Green into a star player.
- Nov 23, 2021. Some people just get it, some people don't. If you've got a lazy Sunday and you want to have a few good belly laughs, take a trip down memory road in this thread.
In which year will this happen? I feel you're the one feasting on crows currently. Would love you to be forced to share, but seems unlikely when 4th year dude can't dribble
I am totally baffled with Green; one game he is Kobe, the next game he is PeeWee Herman. I can't remember any player ever that was so bad and so good. Wonder what the Rocket's coaches think?
You can't remember it, because it's never happened before in fact. There hasn't been another young player with that number of huge scoring games on high efficiency that didn't become a star player, despite the belief to the contrary. Usually players either have a couple of flashes and show they're not the top guy, don't flash at all, or flash loads and become the top guy. Jalen flashed more than most players who did become star players, the difference is that Jalen's bottom end of play is actually terrible. For most star players, especially young ones, they have a more regular game and then the big explosions. Jalen has **** games or big explosions. He has insane explosions of talent that almost nobody else has ever shown, but because he can't raise his floor there's no real value in the big performances.
It has happened, just not in those dimensions, the Rockets actually signed Linsanity after his explosion..... I believe the Corey Maggettes and Jason Richardsons had exciting games. I think what you meant that there were a few guys like Josh Howard or young Eric Gordon who had decent seasons but never exploded that much..... they were always consistently decent but not great.
Yeah I'm not sure you realise the difference between Jeremy Lin and Jalen Green, it's not tiny. Linsanity is nothing compared to Jalen Green's flashes. The Linsanity run isn't even close to the "March Jalen" run. Linsanity was literally him averaging 25/3.8/9.2 in a couple weeks in February, that's it. Go look up which players had the same number of 30 and 40pt games on greater than 50% from the field and 40% from 3 in their first 3 seasons/similar age to Jalen. The names aren't ****ing Jeremy Lin tier, they're KD and Lebron tier.
If you watched him and yeah he does dunk a lot and goes to the basket when he is on but his uncanny ability to hit consecutive 3s is what makes the explosion possible......He perfected this habit of shooting 3s after 3s when he hits first shots. The same thing is when he gets ice cold and the other team is game planning against him like the Worriers did. I think there were some streaky shooters in the past but I contest that in the early 00s those guy just did not attempt 15-17 threes as Green did. The high volume 3 point shooting actually started with Curry and Harden since 2014-2015s.....onward....roughly 9-10 years. Guess what.......all they do down there in the GLeague is shooting 3s....
Yeah, I wasn't lucky enough to have caught Madison Square Garden Games back then but you are right that it was not the same. But I did re-watch those games and Jerry Lin did drive a lot and shot less. So his explosion came off 2 pointers......and insane drives and consecutive layups instead of Jalen Green 3s. It was when nobody knew who that kid was ......and then they just found ways to obstruct the paint/driving lanes. You somehow still knew who Jalen was because he was a 2nd pick versus an undrafted Asian kid out of nowhere. Reddit seriously suggested Carmelo Anthony to stay out of the way and let the kid drive. Garden was a Top 2 venue nationwide.
Jalen could still become Devin Booker in a few years or he could be like Tyreke Evans and fizzle out and have a mediocre career. We dont know. At his point im tired of depending on him and I cant take another year of his crazy delusional fan stalkers. I cant take another year of him looking good for a month or two then disappearing when we need him the most. We need someone more consistent.
I feel like this is accurate and unbiased, which is growing more rare on this board. I can’t even open that “Jalen green numero uno” thread anymore. It’s just people insulting each other. the fact is Jalen took a big step this year. I’m excited Jalen shot 35% from long range. That’s a big deal. Shooting efficiency was his biggest problem. And he was actually more consistent this year. No where near consistent enough but overall more consistent than in previous seasons. There’s no reason not to think he’ll continue to improve. But the problem now is he’s making $36 mil per and we are focused on winning basketball games. You want your $36 mil player to be consistently productive. He needs to be reliable. Jalen is not reliable. And you can’t spend $36 mil on a hope. So that’s why I’d move off Jalen. We need his salary spot for a star or more reliable plsyers. Jalen basically ran out of time with his development curve. The Silas yrs didn’t help. But If you can’t be relied on by your 5th season, you shouldn’t be earning near max money. And you can’t start for a team trying to contend for a championship. That’s my “objective” take.
Most likely he won't be either of those two extremes. He'll be a good player, but not someone you can count on consistently. A starter level guard with baseline good defense but wildly inconsistent scoring that you'd expect/accept out of your 6th man. It will be on Ime to know when to take him out when he's a detriment to the team, and to keep him in when he's hot and providing us what we need.
