"I understand people are very passionate and people love the Astros and love sports, but threatening to find my kids and murder them is a little bit tough to deal with," McCullers said postgame, according to The Athletic's Chandler Rome. Pretty ****ed
That's seriously ****ed up. You don't mess with someone's family. Track 'em down, arrest 'em, throw 'em in jail, or.....? [I also would think that, because of social media, those threats are from other places and fanbases, not Houston]
IMO your offer is an overpay, but it's not terrible. I just think you are wasting money bidding against yourself for the first 3 years of the deal because he is already under control. What I mean by that is if an extension is not done, there is no scenario where Hunter gets $25M per season. The highest arbitration salaries I have been able to find for a SP: Arb 1: Dallas Keuchel $7.25M Arb 2: Jake Arrietta $10.7M Arb 3: Jake Arrietta $15.6375 = $33.5875M * Framber is making $18M but it's his 4th year as a super 2 and doesn't apply to Hunter. So, if you are figuring the amount you want to offer Hunter @$25M per season during arbitration, you are paying at least $40M more than you need to. At 6/$150M you are paying $115M ($38.33M per year) for the 3 FA years because the arbitrations years are already set to be worth only $35M or less. That's a good way to get him to agree, but its a huge overpay IMO. You are saying he is worth $38.33M per year because if he's not, you are wasting money. If you think he's worth $35M per year, the. Anything above $140M is wasted money. And if you Actually think he is only worth $25M per season, then you offer him 6/$110. You can't just pretend arbitration seasons don't exist. Arbitration seasons at lower than market value are how you can afford to give 35 year old Jose Altuve $25M+. If you pay players their actual real value during arbitration you can not fill a real, competitive team without LA Dodger resources
Lance is a has been pitcher. Bury that 5/85 or whatever it was in the H. Keith Law was right all along. Even aspiring for him to be a serviceable #3 at this point is an endeavor in ignorance. This is not 2017. Lance would be best to retire if not for Crane trying to get anything out of this stupid contract. Lol at those who think lance can be any part of a 2025 playoff starting rotation. He has not been efficient in years (when he was even available), and is chronically injured...as everyone is well aware of. Time to let this one fade in the distance.
the whole idea is that the player doesn’t have to go through arbitration and will get his bag early. That’s what is attractive to the player. The team is attracted to the FA years being significantly under market value. That is how they handled Yordan and Bregman.
No one should be upset at Lance. He's been on the shelf for years. If you want to be upset, be upset with the person who moved him from Sugar Land to the big club when he's clearly not ready for major league hitters. As bad as any fans feel, think how he feels out there on the mound with thousands watching... I think they need to look outside the organization to add a back of the rotation guy. Gambling on rookies is already happening even with adding another arm.
I’m disgusted. No doubt some lowlife who has been to prison before. How can any real Astros fan death threat an Astro and his family for any reason especially after the dynasty run we just had? It’s only his second start and he needs to find his groove. It just makes me sick! I still hate social media.
This has very GAMBLING IN SPORTS feel about it. People get crazy when they get in too deep or try to manipulate the outcomes.
Losers behind a keyboard threatening a baseball player and his family over a silly baseball game. Losers need a life.
He had a bad game. He may not be ready for MLB. Beyond that…life goes on. Happy Mother Day. I miss my mom. Good luck Astros.
Doesn’t sound like a sophisticated user, so it shouldn't be hard to find them. We have ways of tracking them down.
Not that threatening someone's family after a playoff (or other consequential) game makes it acceptable, but why would you be that angry about a random regular season game in May? It's hard to believe this is just someone generally "passionate about the Astros."
