Yes and that is precisely why we remember the things about it that we do. Certainly doesn't mean it’s my favorite genre (or that it ever was), as someone here seemed to think.

Weird too because the music I drop here is 99% not hairband. Oh well.

"thrash metal" or whatever we called it, killed 80's hair metal before grunge did...in theory

    Bands such as these?

    • Metallica
    • Megadeth
    • Anthrax
    • etc

Some (many?) of them overlapped in the same time period as the Hair Bands.

I disagree. It may have hurt it a little but bands like poison, guns and roses, winger, warrant etc all got popular after thrash was popular. They coexisted. Grunge actually slammed the door on all that ****. Poison and all that trash was on the radio until teen spirit was.

*yes I know GnR was heavier than those other bands and they kinda got a pass in the rock world that the other hairbands didn’t when grunge took over.

Metallica was only thrash until 1988. After AJFA they were just plain old rock.

I used to love megadeth when I was younger. Can’t really do it now. It all sounds the same.

I never cared for anthrax. Did see em open for maiden though.

I don’t have a clue. I’m sure it wasn’t something on the radio.

I thought you would’ve gathered that it wasn’t from my other post. Also, I think the black album dropped in 1991. I did wait in line at midnight to buy it. However, we all knew it was trash almost immediately. We were so disappointed. A few thought they liked it and tried to but finally succumbed to the truth.
