Or maybe Trump got ego stroked by people who had no intention of a cease fire like he usually does. Amazing how many cease fires he brokers that end as soon as he leaves the room.

If you give away your tell that you don't want war then there's no teeth in threats to punish the wrong doers or keeping the peace. No one liked US as a policeman but they accepted it because everyone else just stood, watched then complained a little that someone should do something about it.

He buried Hong Kong protestors with apathy in his first term while telling xi in private that he'd do nothing . Ended up with a useless toothless deal and some bribes licensing deals for his daughter.

Lobbing missiles at Houthi pirates is lower than Obama level red line diplomacy.

    IIRC

    Xi fast-tracked the approval for
    • copyright for Ivanka's fashion/jewelry brands
    • Trump-branded spa and escort services

This conflict will change how future air battles are waged, Top Gun is gone, BVR and system air battle era is here now. No wonder China's J20 only have missiles and no guns, they foresaw this more than a decade ago.

It's been that way for decades with "fire and forget" air-to-air missiles. The only reason to have guns is for ground support missions.

There is a lot going on - there is a lot of nationalism in India with the Hindi's and Modi. I have a number of Indian friends in the USA that have fallen prey to it as well. There is a sense of wanting to make all of India Hindi and all Indians to unite. This can be very bad because it can lead to war, and there are no shortage of possible candidates in that part of the world.

I think the future is bright for India - as long as it does not go down this nationalist path that will lead to war and inevitable economic failure that comes with authoritarian regimes.

I am not saying what the proper course if for Indians as I am not Indian and I do not live in India.

Having said that - I know what authoritarianism is, and why media and information is limited by a government and it is to control the population of people within its borders.

This is how batshit crazy and war hungry many in India have become. In the next decade they will give the islamists a run for their money in being the biggest threat to peace

Speaking of aircraft and such, I give you Donald J. Trump, aviation genius:

“An F-35 has a single engine; I don’t like single engines,” Trump said, before gesturing to GE Aerospace chief executive Larry Culp. “Even this man, he’s the best in the world at engines. But on occasion, I know you won’t admit this, if an engine goes out, it’s nice to have two, three or four. That’s why I like the 747, it’s got four.”
    ...
“Sometimes, you know, stealth, they do stealth,” Trump said. “I’m not a huge believer in stealth, because stealth is basically, a lot of it’s the design and the shape. … You’re going to design an ugly plane for stealth reasons. And then six months later, they’re going to figure out this, and then you’re stuck with a plane.”
