Sucks that he was willing to extend before he broke out but once he got good he switched to Boras and was no longer in a hurry to extend. Not saying he still won't extend but it just got harder/cost went up. I wonder what he was asking for back then compared now.
Not bad. I will say ( believe it or not) that I want Dubon at 2b with Lance on the mound. DH Altuve and keep Caratini on the bench. I DO think that Smith and Dezenzo both need to be in every lineup until Yordan returns
If we weren’t going to spend to keep Bregman or Tucker, we aren’t going to spend it to keep a pitcher. This team regularly pumps out pitchers. Luckily we have Hunter for several more years though.
if astros can't extend hunter then spaghetti will be the next dude up. dude almost pitched a no-hitter against the phillies (?)
Right now - we are talking about a Bregman type extension of 5 years, not a 7+ year or $150M+ deal. It's apples and oranges.
During the Golden era, is Hunter the best homegrown pitcher the Astros have developed? Still a bit early but I think Framber or McCullers are the other choices. Musgrove is probably the best one traded away. This organization can develop and bring up #4 type starters in their sleep, but TOR starters are a different animal.
I’m guessing he’s matching up Caratini and McCullers for whatever reason. He caught for him his first start as well.
When you can shut at team down without your best stuff and/or control you're doing okay by me. I was looking around at stats this morning and Fried is the only AL pitcher you could say is having a better year, and it's not by much
I've never heard anything like this and would need some more details and timeline (ie: Brown's not a FA until 2029, which (checks calendar) is a while away, and Brown didn't "break out" until midway through last season). Buying out a couple+ of his arb years and a couple+ of FA years after this season sounds like a great move though. Also, having Boras as an agent does not preclude signing an extension (see Altuve, Jose...and others), you're having Beltran hangovers from 20 years ago (can't believe it's been that long)
