    Trump says he’s going to reopen Alcatraz prison    , the notorious former prison
    on a hard-to-reach California island off San Francisco that has been closed for more than 60 years.

    Alcatraz, he said, has long been a “symbol of law and order. You know, it’s got quite a history.”

    Never mind that the reason the Alcatraz prison was closed because it was too costly to operate.

    Re-opening Alcatraz is the most asinine thing I've ever heard and is in complete contradiction with the goals of DOGE. I suppose it could be done with private investment but it shouldn't be done with taxpayer money. It's going to be an overly expensive thing to do. Does anyone see the costs coming in at anything below a billion dollars at the minimum? You probably have to raze the old main prison building and start over. It projects nothing except what used to be and really what is no longer necessary these days.

    The reason Alcatraz prison was closed was that it cost way too much to imprison people there--
    more than 3 them as much as other lockups​
