Damn, Adams is saying goodbye. We're probably a play-in team without him.

Wonder if 4 years 60 million with last year being a team option would be enough ? Gives him three years of staying with this core.

I don’t like the sound of this goodbye, but it’s common sense for negotiation posture.

People don’t really get just how much Steven Adams changed things for Alperen. He didn’t just play center, he absorbed the role. Took the bruises. Did the grunt work. And it allowed Sengun to succeed on defense in that weird, lopsided zone they ran. Now they lose Adams and suddenly the Rockets feel exposed. It would be a big loss, bigger than most folks are talking about.

I don't take it as a goodbye. I hope, and think, he's just thanking the fans for their support this season.

The problem is how much noise his success made, a full MLE is a given, and a multi year 20+ mill per deal is a real possibility

my understanding is that not many teams have money to pay him. We should be able to get him back for around $18 mil per if he wants to be here. If he wants to go start somewhere that can pay him, those options will be limited. I’m hopeful.

He would start for the Lakers. If they want him he is gone. I’m sure he will pick starting over a couple more million to stay in Houston.

they want him for sure. But it could be a difference of much more than a couple mil. I don’t think LA’s cap situation is very good, but I’m certainly no expert.

This is true. I believe they can offer the full mle but am not certain which would be around 14.1 M in the first year. If the Rockets go 20M you might be right. That is a lot to pay for a backup center when you have so many other extensions to worry about in the next 2 years. I don’t think the 2 big lineup is a winning strategy long-term, but I like Adams as a backup center. This team is built for speed and until we lean into that “showtime” pace of play we will be a one and done playoff team. Adams can be a part of that as a backup center, but the 2 big lineup will only be effective against certain teams and for maybe 10 mins a game.

I agree. I think he’s worth going to $20 for but as long as Fred and Jalen are on the books for big money I don’t see how we can afford that relative to the extensions you mention. My hope is that we can make some big changes to our backcourt but I’m not holding my breath. And I agree that long-term the Sengun-Adams double big isn’t a great strategy for this team of jump out of the gym athletes. Not playing with pace is one of the most frustrating things about having Fred as a point guard. Adams doesn’t really fit with a team that wants to get out and run. Still he might be the best backup center in the league.

We are aligned in our thinking, but I think the Rockets are dedicated to Ime and Ime is dedicated to his style of basketball and dedicated to FVV as a starter. I think the city and the FO will become of the same opinion as me after next year. We are going to waste another year on this sh*t offense and running it back.

If it helps, I think Amen will likely emerge over the next year as more of a star than Sengun, that's when the shift should start I think. Currently Ime's fairly justified in his FVV-centric focus, that's what worked in his first season with us in terms of weaponising Alpi. Currently I'd say they're still treating it as Alpi's team, once that shifts to Amen then the pace should naturally increase as they focus more on his style.

We are keeping him. We cant let him go as we have little capspace to sign FAs. We can go over the cap to sign him.

If he is signed as a free agent, his market is pretty much limited to 14.1m and that is only to a tax paying team. I think the Rockets could pay 18m as a good will response to his performance and to insure they win him. It’s the same situation with FVV. It is crazy to pay him 20m when his market is 14.1 as a FA.
