Of course they gave him an out, and of course Trump does not want to ask Bukele for the return of Kilmar because it sours relations with a strong political figure and an ally offering resources. I'm sure Bukele also does not want to be the main factor in this whole insane debacle. I'd be pissed if I was Bukele and Trump threw me under the bus demanding I send him back my own citizen who by the way could have crimes in El Salvador that need to be answered for.

Asking for the return of Garcia doesn't sour relations between the USA and El Salvador. The United States is PAYING Bukele to take these prisoners.

Insane debacle? This is on the Trump administration, they have been overly zealous and sloppy in the execution of what they are doing. They have admitted they wrongly deported Garcia.

El Salvador has the highest incarceration rate in the world, they are fine without someone that wasn't even living in El Salvador and hasn't for many years.

This isn't just politics - not when you start violating the separation of powers.

As for Garcia - I don't know the man, and have no idea if he is a good or bad person - and don't really overly care. I do care about the usurpation of powers by the executive branch though. It doesn't lead to good things, we say what the fall out was from the Bush power grab.

If you think he has to comply with the law then he has to comply with the law even if they aren’t citizens. The court has already ruled on this. If you don’t think the court has the right to rule on it then you don’t think any one has any legal protection. We either have rule of law or we don’t.
