Yeah, you look at other teams and they have so many more efficient shooters. We need better shooters.
Oh, I agree he wasn't ready. Do I think he can improve his shot efficiency much more in 3 more years than Jalen did though? Definitely, with more assists, less turnovers, and more steals. Do I believe he has a higher basketball IQ, and will learn more from mistakes? Yes.
Rockets def need to improve the backcourt but why does it have to be someone old and expensive like Devin Booker? Maybe you guys arent aware but guards are most prolific resource in the league. First of all at top 9 in the draft we can get an efficient playmaker/scorer like Jakucionis, Tre Jones or Jeremiah Fears. In the free agent market, both Quentin Grimes and Ty Jerome are free agents, Cavs and Philly are capped out they have no money to pay them. We can prob even get Tyus Jones for what are paying Holiday today. There is no need to trade our assets to get a Devin Booker or a Trae Young, we should try staying away from paying somebody max salary unless he is a top 5 player in the league cuz Amen is already set to make the max extension. Even if we kick out Jalen Green, theres Steven Adams, FVV (you know Ime loves him), Jabari, Tari, Whitmore and Reed to think about. There wont be enough money to pay everyone if we get a max contract and esp a super max contract.
At this moment in time, Anthony Edwards sure is looking like the future face of this league. Does he want that future to be in Minnesota? Does the league? Rockets are sitting on considerable trade capital which makes asking 5hose kinds of questions less of a pipe dream than they may sound on the surface. Probably would’ve helped if Wolves lost in RD1, and didn’t seem like a real threat for back-to-back WCF’s. If you’re going the trade route, you need to maximize your return in trade to give you the best chance at a title. I think that list starts with reaches such as Ant Edwards, or even Jokic. Not available? Then management needs to assess running it back vs other trades. I personally don’t think Giannis by himself is enough, and feel he would have to be (1) of (2) star additions via trade. Durant’s age sends me looking for door #3, but could he be had on the cheap?….. because I’m certainly not “trading Phoenix all of their picks” for 37-year old KD. Keep in mind, Rockets are up against the cap, so keeping their high-paid talent while adding via trade is not an option. For me personally, Sengun is NOT a must-keep in a trade for the likes of Giannis. Legit question: Will anyone take Jalen?
you ignoring the fact that he hasn’t been in a offensive structure to help improve - even if we ignore he has the worse whistle … when Ime clearly puts him in game to take last second shots / etc etc … he’s made a conscious decision to stop taking the 3pt step backs he used to spam multi times a game … Put him in a spread or motion offense where he can have more driving lanes and his efficiency will go up
He's not always in a position to take last second shots. Meanwhile, Amen Thompson has found ways to drive it in and shoot at 55.7%, compared to Jalen at 42.3%. Sorry if I don't share your optimism about him, his BB IQ, or about his greatness. I don't care about building around him. The lanes aren't going to open up when Sengun, Amen, and Adams aren't 3 PT threats at all. He might do better with a bunch of guys who can frequently score 2 PT floaters and 3 PT shots, but that's not the bulk of this team.
Amen is playing dunkers spot… I swear some of yall are r****ded… if Amen had to play SG full time yall would be crying a bloody river
Oh, he isn't a SG, I agree. He also turns the ball over too much to be a PG. I also hope we can find better shooting guard than Jalen in the future. He's ok for a 6th man, but no star starter that's for sure
Quote from Stone: "I think we're on a very solid trajectory. But just because you've done it in the past doesn't mean that you're guaranteed to do it in the future. So, we have to continue to put in the work, which kind of starts on an individual basis, and not just with our players, [but] myself, my staff. We have to figure out around the edges, are there things we can do, including doing nothing. We have to do our jobs. Ime and his staff, they have to do theirs. We all have to come back a little better next year. But today, I'm very comfortable with our progression." Stone's revealed his cards: run-it-back with the top 8, ask the players to individually improve, work on the edges (is this code for resigning Adams and the prodding the stay-ready guys: Sheppard, Whitmore, N'Fante, and the #9 pick [who, like Sheppard, will sit next year]). No package or trade is coming unless another GM loses their mind. Yawn. Can we fast forward past the uneventful off-season already? The most telling phrase in the quote is: "including doing nothing."
I'm all for signing a vet guard, and there are a bunch of available guys. Though I doubt you could get in the top three, but if anyone would take Jalen or Cam + #9 to swap up a few spaces, you might be able to nab a nice draft pick with enormous upside.
I'm thinking at a smaller scale rather than blow a wad of picks and players on a star that isn't perfect... Booker doesn't play well on defense. Durant is old and needing an extension. Giannis will cost nearly all our future assets and the Thunder could still outbid us... Trey Murphy is out there on a terrible team. I'm thinking Jalen Green and Cam Whitmore may get it done. That would unload Jalen's deal. We could then have a lineup of: Amen Thompson Dillon Brooks Trey Murphy Jabari Smith Alperen Sengun That's 3 shooters in the lineup. They can run some pick and roll with Amen/Sengun leaving 3 shooters to kick out to. The lineup would also be very big... 6'7" 6'6" 6'8" 6'11" 6'11" I'm fine with Giannis hunting but worry how that looks with him and Sengun on offense. I know it sounds ridiculous on face value, but I prefer Sengun's upside and age to Giannis. I look at it as 5 years of prime Giannis or 10 years of prime Sengun. If price is reasonable (5 picks and salary filler) I would do it and figure it out. I just like the thought of a smaller move that maintains our future capital... there's still going to be a lot of natural improvement without having to upgrade the roster for improvement....
