Sell high, buy low. Green is going to improve next season and will have his string of All-Star games. That’s when you pull the trigger.
Jalen Green has low efficiency in all 4 seasons. The more we keep Jalen, the less value we get. They all know Jalen is not good at basketball.
Jalen had a horrendous first playoff experience, but he's shown improvement each year he's been in the league as reflected in various advanced metrics. Unless he is totally mentally broken by this experience, he will likely continue to improve for at least 3-4 more years before he hits his prime. However, it's clear to me at this point that he is best suited as a #3 option offensively. Here are a list of guards 28 and younger that I consider to be clearly better than Jalen as of now: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Luka Dončić Jalen Brunson Anthony Edwards Donovan Mitchell Tyrese Haliburton Devin Booker Trae Young Cade Cunningham Jalen Williams Tyrese Maxey Darius Garland Jamal Murray LaMelo Ball De'Aaron Fox Tyler Herro Ja Morant Desmond Bane Austin Reaves Which one of these players do we think are obtainable, understanding we would have to include additional assets in a trade? I've bolded the players that I think could potentially be available this summer for the right price. I've seem some pretty bombastic posts on here suggesting we should dump him for players like Anfernee Simons, Collin Sexton, Cam Thomas or Jordan Poole. I understand the emotional response that's basically "get him off the team at all costs" but I seriously don't think these players in place of Jalen would make this team any better. There's no statistical evidence that supports that and I don't think Stone would even consider that anyway, so it's not productive.
If the Rockets can build a legit roster with 2 guys better so that Jalen can drop to the 3rd option then fine. Otherwise he has got to go, he just doesn't bring enough to the table without scoring. The days of pretending he is ever gonna be a top scorer have to be done.
can anyone name other players better than these 4 that Jalen Green can be traded for straight up without the Rockets including any additional assets? Anfernee Simons, Collin Sexton, Cam Thomas or Jordan Poole
Good question. But the reason we can prob trade Jalen for those 4 straight up is that he was better than them last season. Other guards that we could probably trade Jalen straight up for: Coby White Immanuel Quickley Malik Monk Devin Vassell
If only we knew how high of an offensive ceiling Sengun/Amen have. They are both so young still and could easily develop into more legit 1st/2nd options.
I think I would rather have Malik Monk and an extended Keon Ellis than Jalen Green at this point. I think all of those guys are second or third options but at least Monk and Ellis know it. Also Monk averaged 5.6 assists this season and Ellis shot 43% from 3. I think you start Ellis and have Monk be your microwave bench scorer leading the second unit.
Cam is the future at SG, he is way better than what you think and he is only 20.....stop undervaluing him. The problem with Jalen, the main problem is he is just not very smart. It is not something he is going to overcome, he is a great athlete, but he doesn't think the game, doesn't process it faster than others, he is what he is a nice role playing SG, but not one that you can build around, he isn't smart enough for that. He needs to have the game simplified to be effective. We need to do what OKC does and start VALUING BBALL IQ over athleticism. DD
You'll be very disappointed once Cam is traded...by the way, Cam is a one trick pony. Got sent down to the G-league to work on his development and only averaged 2 assists in the G-league. He's not a great playmaker who can draw the defense to get his teammates good looks. Cam either step back 3 or drive into a crowded paint to draw a foul or bad shot attempt...there's film on that regarding his bad decision making. I'm not a huge fan of Jalen, but one improvement he made was finding the open man when he drives though he's not proficient in that area.
Obviously, Jalen isn't CP3 or anything but his main issue is a skill deficiency. The fact that you're using the "not smart enough" or "doesn't think the game" narrative in a pro Cam post is insane. We can argue about potential and upside, but saying you value "BBALL IQ" while calling Jalen dumb and saying Cam is the future makes you at best, seem like you're picking favorites and at worst not a real knower of ball.
He is 20. Cam moves off the ball well, always gets himself an open look, makes good passes when he gets extended time, his BBall IQ is fine, he just needs time to play and it will all become clear, we have to move on from those that NEVER WILL like Jalen to those that MIGHT BE - that's Cam. DD
Man, that's a generous description. Anyways, you may be right, who knows. It'll be fun to watch Cam's career and development.
