Well, a lot of COYs got fired after a couple of years. That's the nature of coaching in the NBA. Very few coaches are good for all situations. Some coaches are good at making bad/mediocre teams into good teams. But they aren't good at making good teams into great championship contenders. Some coaches aren't very good at motivating young players or lesser talents to overachieve, but they are good at maximizing mature star players to win it all. A lot of COYs are the former type. And their success ironically brings them into situations where they are stuck.
