The "franchise player" debate has been settled. It's Amen.

There is no franchise player on this franchise as of yet. Amen Thompson is Andre Iguodala. That’s just who he is. Really good player, but will never carry the load offensively. I’m sure he’ll get better, but he’s not going to become a different kind of player. And at a certain point, “getting better“ is just marginal improvement.

With the tanking era of the rebuild over, it’s time to spend money and cash in draft picks/salary to get an actual franchise player. We are not going to find one at pick number nine In the draft. The tanking is over, but the rebuild isn’t, and some of you are going to have to let go of your special little guys If we’re ever going to get back to the conference finals. I have my favorites, too, so I get it… it sucks. But these young guys are a lot closer to their ceiling than some of us want to admit.

Sengun and Amen, at 22, are "near their ceilings?" I swear, it's like a race to the bottom around here recently.

I favor Amen, but I think Sengun was the best player in the playoffs for the Rockets overall despite Amen playing better the past 2 games or so. I don't think the debate is settled. Unless Giannis, Luka, Jokic, SGA, or Tatum is available, I think the Rockets should still let the debate go on until one of them is a Top 15 player.

I'm not sure I totally agree - I think Thompson was our best player the last four games of the series. He averaged 20/8 on a .63 TS% in that stretch and played lockdown defense. But I do agree that there is an argument for Sengun, and I'm not trading him for anyone not named among who you listed, including Booker.

Amen was taking over on both sides of the ball and willing us to victory in Game 7 against GS, before he was injured. He is The Man. Forget about where he resides in the hierarchy of our team, Amen is on his way to becoming a top 3 player in the LEAGUE.
"Amen" will be known/worthy of a one word name ala "Magic". We are watching the ascendance of a generational talent.

Jalen could be just like Vinnie Johnson - but with a faulty magnetron

He is definitely working on it, mechanics looks vastly improved, he doubled his 3P% over last season, shot 37% on corner three pointers this season. Just takes time.

As for why he didn't have it down before being drafted--who knows? We know him and his brother practiced the hell out of their shooting with OTE. Maybe he never needed a jump shot before then because he was so physically dominant when he was younger. And some guys just have lower starting points, it comes less naturally for them; I think it's also harder when you have really long arms.

I think he'll get there though. Bare minimum he ends up a Jimmy Butler-esque shooter, IMO.

I’m pretty sure he HAS been working hard on his 3 ball. It worked: He improved from “abominable” to “bad.” It’s a lot harder to improve from “bad” to “average.” Hope he gets there, but I think “good” is off the table. He simply isn’t a long-range shooter, and you can’t run an offense through him. He’s not a point guard, and he can’t lead the way for a great team, just like his closest comps Igoudala and Marion couldn’t.

I believe he’s a championship piece, but not the main guy. And the shooting is ultimately why.

The franchise player debate has been settled…….we don’t know if we have one……we “might” (Amen), but no one on the roster is definitively THAT after this season

The number of players in the league who Sengun could be traded for is very very small. Sengun is 22. He's locked up on one of the best contracts in the league until 2029. Trae Young or Tyler Herro are not on Sengun's tier as trade assets. There's only 12-14 guys in the league that for sure have more trade value than Sengun.

I think the "franchise player" thing is a bit nonsensical at this stage. Neither Amen or Sengun has the clout where our FO is going to make suboptimal decisions just for fit purposes around them. So these are just players on the team that have a lot of value and are important to our future.

Better to think about it in terms of how much we think the FO believes in the player, and how averse the FO would be to including them in a trade.

    Tier 1: Amen, Sengun
    (gap)
    Tier 2: Tari, FVV, Jabari
    Tier 3: Reed, Dillon, Adams
    (gap)
    Tier 4: Jalen, Cam

I don't agree that Iggy and Marion are his closest comps. He's already better than each in multiple categories.

Also, you don't need to be a good jump shooter to be a #1 offensive option. It depends on your other offensive skills. Just ask Giannis

What's exciting is that he got better as the series went on--he looked extremely nervous and not himself those first few games.

The last four games of the series he averaged 20, 8, and 3 with 3.5 stocks on 54.7% shooting / 33% from three / 80% free throw shooting.

    Just 2 made 3s and he’s a 26ppg player

the rockets developing his 3 should v be even more of a priority than drafting or another star

all day every day just jack up shots
