Why did Yao get only 7 shots? Because the Spurs collapsed early and often on Yao, and Yao passed out. The other guys need to make teams pay for doubling down on Yao, but Yao also needs to find ways to shoot over (or through) the doubles, especially when the rest of his teammates are struggling.

I don't care he took 23 shots. TMac was playing a heck of defense. The problem was ROX's offense looked like a mouse getting lost in a maze.

They should also learn to pass back into yao again, when he re-gains position.

That would be great if not for the shot-clock.

10 points in the 1st quarter? 12 points in the 3rd?

I know its premature and TMac had a bad shooting game, but I hope this doesn't become a reoccuring problem like last season.

    Box Score summary

    the good: Yao
Yao had a double double, 13/11 and three blocks, only missed two shots, 5/7
    the bad
only shot 7 times, three turnovers, 5 pf although the refs were foul crazy tonight.

    Tmac
Good: very well rounded kirilinkoish stats 8 boards 5 assists 4 steals 2 blocks 15 pts, very hard defense
    da bad
shot 6/23, 1/5 FT, gotta make his free throws cause he's going to the line a lot this year.

    Boki
    Good
didn't miss 3-3,even had a three and had a block in 17 minutes, 0 TOs
    the badki
everytime when we're about to give up on him, he pulls a game like this, WHY CAN"T YOU JUST LET US GIVE UP ON YOU AND END THE PAIN!!!???????

In other news, Ward played very well, had 11 points, more than I expect from him, 5 ast and 4 steals, the fact that our guards got 8 steals on the spurs who are a very fundamental team (something tells me they got it off of wilks and parker) Deke had a very efficient game, im expecting to avg 5 boards and 1.6 blocks in 15 minutes a game this year. Jim jackson had 4 tos, and wth happened to Bowen?

Hey. Yao could knock those 6-8 guys to the ground everyday. But they call that a foul....

Frustrating isn't it? Just when I thought he had ruined his last shot, he comes back toinght with an all-around nice game. A 3 pt., a nice shot to beat the shot clock, good finish on a break with Tmac and some pretty good defense on Barry. I just hope we can see this way more often.

Don't forget 1.2 FWs/game. He always leads the league in finger-waving!

I hope the refs refrain from calling technicals when he does that. That's basketball entertainment at its finest.

It doesnt effect the European game because those guys know how to shoot. They have been dealing with zone D much of their life. Many of these american players are coming right from HS and not dealing with college zone d. They dont know how to handle it.

Zone, trapezoid lane etc....changing those doesnt get to the real problem which is young americans cant shoot the basketball. They dont understand the midrange game. They dont know how to work off screens or move without the basketball. THAT is the problem.

The best thing this league can do is not tinker with the rules but just set up a REAL NBDL league where REAL rookies can go down there and LEARN how to play!

I'm really tired of Ref's refusing to allow Yao to get position. Why is it ok for opposing teams to mug him? More importantly, I was under the impression that you CANNOT push a player out of position. Every team does that to Yao with no penalties. That is bullsh!t.

Spurs slowed Rox down bringing ball up - causing offense to start later in cycle so reposting to Yao was not possible.

Spurs are first team to figure this out. Pop and his staff are sharp.

I credit Ginobli for T-Mac's bad shotting - he was like horse fly.

It'll be interesting to see how T-Mac adjusts to Ginobli's style in future matches - I think the overplaying and gambling can backfire against a guy like T-Mac - but we'll see.

Don't forget that the Spurs were playing the 2nd game in a back-to-back (they played Dallas on Tuesday night) so that may explain why they were a bit ragged. As for the Rockets? Interesting to see that they zoned down low to negate Yao & T-Mac's low post game. I expect to see this a lot until the Rockets start making teams pay for adopting this strategy. The low scoring is a big concern to me as well because I don't think they can survive this season struggling to reach the 60-70 point level on a nightly basis.

Yep, A league where you can send down your top draft picks for seasoning and coaching.

Eddie Griffin, Leon Smith, etc..etc..would have been better off in a situation like that.

A minor league is desperatly needed.

Given the head coach of this team, is there any reason for this to surprise anyone?
