from wiki The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, established in 1983 and located in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, is dedicated to recording the history of some of the best-known and most influential musicians, bands, producers, and others that have in some major way influenced the music industry, particularly in the area of rock and roll. tldr they induct who they want
Joy Division / New Order should have been in their first year on the ballot. Last time some journalists claimed they weren't going to vote for them because they were a shoo-in and didn't need their vote.
Get that Cleveland started it all, but is anybody really headed to Cleveland to see this museum? It would be better served in LA or New York, with a tribute to Cleveland. Just saying. I don't think a lot of people even know it's there. This goes for most HOF museums. Nashville is a scene. That works for country. Cooperstown feels like baseball. Indianapolis feels like racing. So that all seems to work. But the others seem to fall a little flat like basketball, football, boxing, and tennis.
Bad Company: Nope Tom Bell: Yep Chubby Checker: If you're talking RockNRoll history of one song, he's in, easily Joe Cocker: Easily no doubt Nicky Hopkins: No, he was just a great session musician, there's so many others Carol Kaye: Yep Cindi Lauper: Nope, she had a couple of really great songs though Outkast: Yep Salt-n-Peppa: Nope Soundgarden: Yep Lenny Waronker: Nope White Strips (and Jack White): Yep Warren Zevon: Yep
Like any award the criteria seems fluid. Sometimes it's most influential, sometimes it's biggest hits, sometimes it's pioneers, sometimes it's quality, sometimes it's body of work, sometimes it's most sales, sometimes it's most timeless music. I think the focus should be artists that had a long career making great music that people of multiple generations still love and listen to. Then, some artists that were so influential that certain genres wouldn't be the same without them. I don't think it should matter that you were really hot in the 80s if no one likes or listens to your music ever again.
Catchy because People like the song The song was on the Radio quite a bit One or more things about the song stands out and makes it memorable What might be Catchy to me might not be Catchy to someone else because they don't like the song. _________________ Edit When are you creating a thread specific for your request? Rockers only or am I allowed to jump across multiple Music Genres?
Keep in mind what is Catchy to me might not be considered Catchy by you and the rest of the World* I have two Rockers and the Non Rockers will be a Cinco de Mayo gift to you. So off to grab links and then will post them later in the Music thread. _____________ * Excluding Rashmon and perhaps a few others such as rimrocker and Ottomaton
