Agree except for Reed. The jury is still way out on him. He is really meh at everything but shooting and, so far, that has been inconsistent. I do think he has potential, but no where near untouchable. I don’t think he gets traded, because there is virtually no trade market for him.
He’s been consistent as a starter, and that too with a bunch of ball hogs. That lakers game nate williams basically stole the game from him. On ime for not writing plays around him to get him experience. He can pass decently, he can steal. He needs to put on size and get better at defense, but he’s 21 ffs, his body isn’t even done growing yet let alone his game.
Cause Jalen helped lead this team to the 2nd seed and had a great season I don’t see how you believe that after watching Reed this season
as far as jalen goes, ship his ass out of here, and his stans can go with him. He’s been quiet all series long barring one game when podz who was defending him was sick.
Because Reed has shown nothing. Green has shown streaks of greatness and showed improvement this year. Reed was the third pick in probably the weakest draft in two decades and would be going somewhere around 10 in this upcoming draft, even though it is not a super deep draft either. He couldn’t even get on the floor for a team whose backup PG is Aaron Holiday. Sorry man, you are just way off on this one.
Sengun > Mobley yes esp for the level of defense that Sengun has been showing. Cade is slightly more valuable than Sengun, but they are very close. Cade didn't dominate the Knicks probably because he had the worst matchup possible (can't overpower Anunoby the way he overpowers everyone else). He is also quite good on defense. Who you prefer depends on fit. We all know about Chet's defense. I think he would show more of an offensive game were he not behind Shai and Jdub in OKC's offensive hierarchy. Banchero has grown on me because of his dominance on offense in a playoff setting. Jrue Holiday and Derrick White best defensive backcourt? Chopped cheese to Banchero. Bigs have no chance of guarding him, and 99% of wings aren't strong enough to stop him from getting to his spots. The only one stopping him from scoring is himself; he just needs to improve his decision-making and free throw shooting. Haven't focused much on his defense. The offensive upside is too good.
We still have that 9th pick. We can use assets to move up get a Tre Johnson or Jakucionis and we good IMO.
I agree with all your takes except for Chet. Chet is a huge ass red flag he keeps getting this major injuries I would def put him behind Jabari. Give me the dude able to play on the court.
Funny I have the same thought about you. *inhales* Jalen Green is a mercurial 4th year low IQ shooting guard that the advanced stats have shown all year has been the single weakest member of the starting 5 on the 2 seed in the West. He has been dragged forward by his teammates so that he could at least be given an opportunity to show that his flashes were more than just flashes. Now hes pretty much thrown up on himself for the world to see and is about to go into the first year of a 105 million dollar contract. Any advanced stat shows that if the Rockets had simply had a *passable* shooting guard, they'd be in a much better position in terms of wins and in this series. He's little more than salary filler at this point in a trade. Doesn't move the needle whatsoever unless its to a team with a high draft pick this year that could convince themselves that they may accelerate their rebuild with say an Ace Bailey and a Jalen Green. Reed is a 2.5 level scorer with high IQ and the ability to manage a game and score from anywhere and any distance. He's in his first year which has basically been a redshirt year for him. When given the keys to have the same freedom that Jalen has....he has performed quite well. His upside is just far beyond Jalen Green at this point who has flatlined. Reed has a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball but his flashes are much more impressive than Green's in that they could be replicated. Put simply: Reed is still very a much a high level NBA prospect. Jalen Green is dead weight. That's how most teams would see it. If you asked the Rockets they'd probably keep Reed over Jalen, especially taking that terrible contract into account. There is no way Stone doesnt regret that decision.
I'm keeping Amen. If he is not already, I think he will soon become one of the most feared players in the NBA and I can see every free agent wing wanting to come here in part because Amen won't be guarding them if they are on the Rockets. Sengun is near untouchable and by near, I mean only available in a Jokic trade. Looking at positions, Sengun is unarguably one of the best post players in the NBA and teams would give up a lot to get him, especially with how he is playing in the playoffs. The difference between Sengun and the best not-Jokic centers is a matter of taste, not production--and Sengun is still improving. Why would you trade a Sengun and weaken a position where you already have a top player to shore up a different position that needs help? In other words, why rob Peter twice to pay Paul once? So, we have Amen and Sengun, but we need a third, along with the requisite fitting role players. I'm good with trading everyone else for a certain third, though Bari is the last one I'd throw in. He's shown up and his shooting and handle will only get better in the next few years. Tari is a curious case. His energy will absolutely win regular season games and get you home court advantage, but in a series like this, he's not quite there as a playoff keystone. His game is havoc but when he has to be disciplined and stay glued to someone like Curry, he makes mental errors. He's like a border collie who is asked to ignore the herd and focus on one particular sheep. It's just not in his nature. Granted, no other team has a streaky freak quite like Curry (who will retire some year), but there are enough pale imitators that the point remains. Still, Tari is an extremely valuable piece. Brooks is a good 3 and D guy and provides the team with a lot of options, particularly on defense. Really good role player. If push came to shove, I'd probably keep him over Tari at this point, but salary matching may decide it. I'd like to keep Adams. Pretty clear at this point that Jalen's game is not refined enough for a team wanting to make deep playoff runs. He needs space that is not there in playoff games and for whatever reason, he has trouble making his own space. A percentage of that may be attributed to the offense we run, but not all of it. I like the idea of FVV, he does some good stuff, and can go off at times, but the size and consistent shooting are not there. He, Jalen, Cam, Reed, and everyone else are ultimately salary filler and/or highlight reels to make other fans more accepting of giving us a better player. One theoretical benefit of getting someone like KD, where presumably the primary piece would be draft picks and not players, is that you could add shooting while still allowing the team room to grow and maintain enough depth so that KD wouldn't need to play more than 25-30 minutes every regular season game. I'd prefer that route, but if a very few certain players become available, you do what you can.
Players that are not up to their potential yet are not the best trade options. In that matter Amen, reed, cam are untouchable. Players that have great trade value are touchable. That makes sengun Using my logic, tari, bari and green are in the gray area. Is it better or worse to trade them at this point is not clear to me
You may be right, I don't know what the future holds for Shepard, Jalen may be the better player - That doesn't make Jalen a winning player. He's just a streaky shooter that offers little when his shot isn't falling - he's shown us that time and again over the last 4 seasons. We have no idea what Shepard is. Yes, he was underwhelming as a rookie .....
Nearly every trade scenario I've seen for a "star" requires gutting the team leaving us in the same (or less) position in which we currently exist.
Sure, exactly what you guys have been saying for over 4 years and what you'll likely be saying 4 years from now. After all, he's only 19.
I think we underrate Jalen’s trade value and his importance to the team as currently constructed. Jalen is a very frustrating player to us that watch every Rocket game, but guys wanting to trade him for decent players like Reeves are thinking more with their emotions that with reality. Jalen has had long streaks of all-NBA play. He and Sengun are who virtually every coach game plans for. Reeves has Lebron and Luka to play off of. Nobody comes into a game trying to deny Reeves the ball. There is a reason that Kerr concentrates on Green more than any other player to shut down. From the league’s perspective, Jalen is extremely marketable. There is also a reason he is getting almost all the national attention from an advertisement perspective. He is young, handsome, and very relatable to the young demographic that is very important to the NBA and the shoe companies. When he is on, there are very few if any guys that are as exciting to watch play. I’m not saying he is untouchable and we need to upgrade our backcourt, but they would be foolish to re-sign FVV and jettison Jalen without giving him a chance to play with Amen or some other FVV replacement. If he is the key piece in a trade for another star fine, but not for marginal improvement in the short term.
I agree WHOLEHEARTLY!! Some times I wonder if people are Rocket's fans or do they have an AGENDA?? Players have bad games and bad series. And Im the first to say Jalen is not playing like I hoped he would to say those players over him?? Come on
He hasnt played great but kinda what I expected his first series. Especially when the defense plan seems to be don’t let him score Jalen could mirror Anthony Edwards stats against the Lakers and people here would be calling him inefficient if he was going 10-24 every game like Edwards. Any had 22pts on 22FGA game 1 and 25pts on 22FGA game two and a nice 6-19 on 0-11 3’s last night Clutchfans would come for Jalen head if he put those same numbers up
Only Amen right now. That might change in a year if we don't see offensive progression. I'd be incredibly hesitant to trade Alpi, but if Giannis is on the table I'd consider including him as a centerpiece.
