Going to be in Austin and I'd like your recommendations. My brother has some money and whenever I visit we often end up at some place that is just a little too upscale for my tastes. I'm wondering if anyone here who knows Austin can make a few recommendations. I'll be downtown and looking for:
    1. A place to watch the Rockets Friday night
    2. A burger place
    3. A bbq place. Someplace new you have been surprised by
    4. A pizza place

I enjoy going to Bangers whenever I'm there and like the changes they've made over the years. So if you are familiar with Bangers that the vibe I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance. A place to watch the Rockets is my main need. The others are gravy!

Never been but I hear Leroy and Lewis has a good burger and BBQ. Casino El Camino is also highly recommended for their burgers. KG BBQ got some Michelin buzz I think.

If you're willing to get out of downtown, Haymaker on the East side will be showing the Rockets and has good bar food. The owner is a Rockets fan.

Oddwood Ales has great beer and serves pizza, plus KG BBQ is right outside if you didn't want pizza.

Pinthouse Pizza is my favorite pizza spot and also serves great beer

This was my subtle attempt to get an invite because I think you are right.

morenos BBQ on manchaca does my current favorite burger in town. they have a burger happy hour deal from 3-7. burger/fries/soda for $12.99. their smash burger is fine, but the smoked burger uses brisket and is awesome!

via 313 pizza if you have never had detroit style.

you didnt ask for tex-mex, but eldorado cafe has my current favorite enchilada plate in town. dart bowl enchiladas topped with the owners award winning chili, a fried egg and pickled jalapenos.

since you mentioned downtown, the austin toy musuem on congress and 3rd is fun nostalgic way to kill and hour. velvet taco if you have never been. driskill bar for a drink.
