Tim MacMahon dropped an interesting crumb the other day. Out of everyone on the Rockets roster, the only player the front office sees as truly untouchable is Amen Thompson. That speaks volumes. Not Jalen. Not Sengun. Just Amen. It tells you how the team thinks. Not just about talent, but about potential and long-term upside. Sengun's good, but if the right deal comes along? He's not in the protected circle. It's not personal, just how this stuff works.
What's the downside risk? My understanding is that he's been playing while his bone is regrowing, but it would be fine once the bone heals (i.e., his recovery should just be ending about now as we are now a year pas his surgery). Small chance he needs rod removed, but that shouldn't be a long recovery.
I'd say Amen is the closest to being untouchable. Just because he's really just a jump shot and improved handles away from being an MVP caliber player. But after that I'd go Sengun and Reed. Neither of those guys are truly untouchable but I think they'd be the three young guys that the team would want to keep and put pieces around.
I’m not the greatest analysis but Reed to me looks like our worst draft pick and a journeyman. As a white guy I wish the best lol but just don’t see it in him. Jalen is still 50/50 to me. I can see him as a top 3 guard. Reed a bottom 10 pg/sg
This makes it seem like you might be close to the worst analyst. What you just said was outright batshit insanity.
LOL, it's nothing personal man, it never is. I just think it's crazy to look at Jalen and see a potential top 3 guard....unless you mean a top 3 guard on the Rockets. I understand that the perception of Reed Sheppard has been negatively impacted by Ime's incompetence when it comes to running rotations, but I think this time next season, some heads will turn.
Well, contract sizes and lengths and cost control and potential do matter to some fans who examine things in depth.
I only chose Amen, because I will trade Alpi if Giannis is available and can be had without gutting the entire team. But I will not trade Amen for anyone who is even remotely realistically on the market.
We know what we have in Jalen, so you are likely going to get fair value and not really regret it later . We have seen 4+ years of him playing nearly every single game, we know what we have. With Reed you are trading away a #3 overall pick who has not played much at all, you are trading away someone you have no idea what the rest of his career will look like. These guys are untouchable for this off season, not untouchable forever. Unless Reed nets you a top 5 pick in this draft, I would think there is higher risk of losing out on upside with him.
No one is untouchable. Amen is the closest thing as there are very few players, I would trade him for and players like SGA rarely become available until they are on the wrong side of 30. There are not two Nico Harrison's in the league. Amen has transcendent skills that cannot be replaced. He is a one-of-a-kind athlete and paired with his killer-instinct and IQ, Amen has the chance to be a top 5 player if he keeps developing his weak points. Cam & Reed: Not sure of their market-value, but I do not see us getting equal value back, so as of right now, better to wait and see what they evolve into. Everyone else of the Core-7 is available for the right price.
Reed Shepard hasn't done anything to be labeled untouchable lol. Sengun has ways to go to be untouchable. Amen is a different story
I was born with only half of my left arm. It stops at the elbow. I would bet my right hand Reed is never better than Jalen. I don’t even think Reed is a starter in the nba
If reed 3 years from now isn’t better than what jalen is now than that would be INCREDIBLY disappointing. I think he will be really good but i get a lot of people don’t believe in him.
