Espada doesn't have a magical touch when it comes to in game decision making and a lot of the time I can't even figure out the internal logic behind it. That's why I'm wondering if Yordan is gimpy. If not it was really a dumb decision.
MLB average is 24.3% of K's looking. Before today: Dubon 66.7% Yordan 35.0% Meyers 33.3% Paredes 33.3% Pena 31.6% Rodgers 31.6% Caratini 25.0% Walker 23.5% Current Paredes 31.8% Rodgers 30.0% Smith 29.2% Walker 25.7%
Astros have had tons of chances Early, every break went Detroits way. Late, Astros can't break through.
Yeah - he doesn't handle the grind as well as he has in the past. I love Altuve and the Astros need his bat, but he needs more rest than others at this point to stay physically fresh.
And it was over after the grand slam. Christian Walker made sure of that. Should have just kept big Jon and moved on.
Gave up 2 earned runs and had a good ball to strike ratio. Pena had more jitters than AJ, costing him 5 unearned runs with that error.
It was the 2nd inning. Pena's error cost the Astros 2 runs. Unless the pitcher is likely to be taken out at the end of an inning, three runs scoring on a single, walk, and homer in a row is on the pitcher in my book.
I don't think I've ever seen a sub .200 hitter get used as a PH in a late, crucial at-bat. If it was regular Yainer I'd understand, but Yainer isn't regular Yainer until he regularly shows that he is regular Yainer.
What is he hitting over his last 25-30 at bats? He had 2 hits yesterday and I think he had another multi hit game the other day. Edit: 8 for his last 28 (.285)
Astros, Rangers and Angels have a cumulative average of scoring 3.65 runs per game. Seattle averages just a shade under 5 runs per game.
.285 over his last 28 AB's and he's still below .200 for the season? His start was even worse than I thought.
