I can personally confirm this sentiment. We live in the Toronto suburbs and most people who know us also know that we're American. There's no hostility other than just being mad at Trump and the Republicans. I think a lot of republicans have convinced themselves that there's some outright hostility towards the US as a whole and that just isn't true. Much of the boycotts around US travel and US goods is simply a product of the fact that Canadians feel attacked by Trump and are doing what they can to send a message back. There's 150+ years of generally peaceful history between the two countries (even longer than that if you count the British period after the War of 1812). Canadians still share a lot of positive feelings towards the US. Really until Trump got elected, I was constantly told how lucky I was that I could live in the US and most people were confused why I would even live in Canada. Young people especially want to move to the US due to job and career opportunities (and the US is just a more dynamic country overall) although that sentiment has changed with Trump. Now I do think there will be some permanent damage from this. And I worry that light anti-Americanism will become more common in Canadian politics. Shades of anti-Americanism were very common in Canadian politics until the 80s when the free trade agreement was signed. I personally thought those days were behind us but I think we'll see a return of that style of politics.
Been trying to decide if pushing Canada liberal was some 4D chess because it gives Trump an enemy to focus MAGA on. But, I decided no, he just didn't know how his comments would impact Canadian election psychology. But, it's not necessarily all that bad for Trump to have an adversarial Canada either.
I don't think he cares what they think. They'll do whatever we tell them to do. If there was 4D chess, I think he's bullying Canada to make Mexico sweat. They'll do what we ask to a lesser extent but being antagonistic head on would have more political damage at home even though it would make "more sense". Claudia bent to his demands earlier this year, so I think there's more care on his end not to rile up our friends to the south too much even though they're more open to China money. Bullying our best friend does cause more lasting damage with our other allies, but I don't think he cares about that either. He could be burning bridges to force future presidents into continuing his mercantilist policies.
I have spent some time in the Toronto area going to Maple Leaf and Raptor's games. The in laws live in Amherst a subdivision of Buffalo. This thread reminded me to call DMV to make my appointment for my ENHANCED license. AKA the travel money grab
Maybe he thought since the new leader in Canada is an ex central banker that has connections and Trump can get some loans in the future
I've been to Amherst countless times. That strip mall with the Trader Joes, Target, TJ Maxx, etc.. is a staple for Canadians (well it was a staple before Trump screwed everything up). Also for the enhanced DL card, you might as well just apply for a Nexus card. You'll get faster border crossings and less hassle. It's an extra card you have to carry but it makes life much easier. Plus you get global entry and TSA precheck as part of the package.
I would Guarantee I have a better job than you . Post the statistics liar. You're a third world country bum who only posts here. Go away Let's bet
