Na. Sengun, still undeveloped, is the second best post player after Hakeem in Rockets history. Yao in his prime might be utterly useless this series due to limitations.
Sengun is going to be a force in this league for another decade. He's 22, having his worst shooting season of his career, and that's still an all-star player who's averaging 22.5/11.5/4.5 in the playoffs.
SHUT YOU F#$$^^#$% HOLE!!!! Yao would DOMINATE THIS F*CKING SERIES and it would not be close Rocket River Sorry . . . . just a knee jerk reaction LOL
If you want to attack Draymond with 5 fouls (dumb anyways, the refs won't foul him out or eject him), put him in the pick and roll with Amen and Alpi, get the switch, let Amen drive and try to finish over Dray. If he misses, Adams, Alpi, and Jabari crash the boards with Fred waiting for a kickout just in case. Simple stuff. But nooooo let's force a tired Alpi to go at 5 fouls Draymond with no movement, just straight iso. Yikes.
But anyone who watch the rockets all year know we do dumb stuff in close games and it was bound to bite us against a good shooting team like warriors.
Imagine what Yao could do to Draymond. Yao could drop a 30 points 100%FG against Draymond, this dude is just too small in front of Yao. Plus...Yao can hit free throws...
lol Yao wouldn't even be able to touch the ball in this series cuz a draymond green front would just take him completely out the game. Then don't even get me started on defense. They'd put him in soo many screen actions and Steph would be hitting wide open threes. Yao would absolutely be useless in this series. Warriors would be his kryptonite. If we were playing Shaq and Kobe lakers he'd be great. But not this.
Your crazy. Draymond would front him and grab and hold him all game. He can't score 30 if you can't get the ball. Najera use to give Yao fits imagine what draymond would do to him. He'd be on the ground half the game.
It looks like Sengun is just lofting the ball up towards the rim and hoping it eventually bounces in... as opposed to actually shooting for the bucket...
It's really hard to watch his shots at times. Shoot it dang it instead of just hoisting up in the air
I know, ofcoz he would front him, we just need a better passer...I am pretty sure when Najera guarded Yao, it was not his prime time. Anyway, I miss Yao so much...I think he can dominate this series. Remember Yao was competing against whom? Duncan, KG, Howard, Sahq, Gasol...you name it...pick a name and they have more skills than current big guys in the league. We just need a very good passer and try our best to protect Yao on the defense end so that he won't be destroyed by Curry's pick n roll.
what prime? 1 year? And yes it happened every time we played the Mavs. Heck even in his best playoff game ever he was 7-7 for 33 points. He was 7-7 in the first half and didn't do a thing in the second cuz he got fronted and never got the ball. We know Yao was great against traditional bigs who had too much pride to front him and wanted to play him straight up. But he wasn't great against small lineups, boozer destroyed him in playoffs, as an Asian man I wanted to love Yao but like what did he ever do for us? Everything we did when he was on the team was inspite of him cuz he was always injured when we needed him most. 23 game win streak he wasn't even there for half of it. Took lakers to 7 he missed 5 games... like what is everyone holding onto this nostalgia that he was some great player for us. He didn't even average a double double and only played 6 season.... what passers on this team would be able to get it to him? We have terrible passers that throw the ball away doing routine stuff. You're dreaming if you think Yao would make an impact in this series. Like I don't even think a prime Shaq would help us in this series. Sengun is not the problem we can't win with this kind of perimeter play. Our guards have been non existent. what we need is James harden.
As usual after a loss... There are a lot of idiotic/asinine posts in the GARM. This thread has more than the norm... Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
You mean the team that was on their way to a title when Yao went down? They'd have to match up with US. And, Moses says hello.
Just to give a little context here, and this is not to defend Sengun specifically but should be taken into account when looking at all our players, the way the series is being played/officiated has killed everyone's efficiency. And that's on both teams, other than the inhuman freak that is Steph Curry. When an Ime team plays the way we're playing, that means both teams are going to play like that. And the result is ugly basketball. We junked up the game and this is the result. The rockets FG%, eFG%, TS%, and offensive rating are all significantly lower than the regular season. And the same is true for the warriors, all 4 stats have a steep drop off. Obviously there will be players, like Curry as I mentioned, who can still be super efficient. But generally speaking in this series, the numbers you consider to be "good", "average", and "bad" should be shifted way down from normal because of the way it's being played.
Seriously, the Warriors dynasty started off with ZaZa Pachulia - who absolutely gave Yao fits. Smaller dirtier defenders were murder on him. Mehmet Okur, Boozer in the playoffs for 2 straight years, Zaza, Eduardo Najera. Draymond is designed in a lab to annoy Yao Ming to death.
Yao would just kill Green with hook shot after hook shot after hook shot. That's all Yao would need. I'm so befuddled by the lack of a basic hook shot by big men these days. Hell even Kevin Willis and Mutombo would kill these centers today with a basic hook shot. Sengun's hook shot is like spray and pray.
I think Sengun had earned the right to get the ball for the last play. He had to know Draymond would be waiting for him. Sengun wasn't decisive enough as the clock was ticking down. He'll learn from that game. I am eager to see the video of Alpi's last shot attempt and to see if there is an angle that would show us Draymond's off-hand. It is a very suspicious placement. Throughout the game, Green supplied "marginal contact" to shooters in the paint with no calls. He has especially targeted Amen by contesting his shot high with one hand and flailing/pushing/grab/poking with the other. It's sort of a judo-science. Early in the game, Amen kept trying to avoid that contact and shooting fall away shots. I'm so glad that Amen finally got mad enough to initiate and finish through some of that contact, but couldn't on his last two shot attempts in the 4th quarter. But then again, no one can make a basket when being pushed off-balance in the chest. Refs, if you're not going to make those calls for Amen, let's not bail out Curry or Butler when they can't finish plays against strong contesting D.
The warriors don't match up with anyone they just do their thing. There is reason why post died it's cus you can't beat 2s with 3s. And everyone had to matchup to them. Jokic works cuz hes the most efficient offensive player of all time and he sets his teammates up for good looks. A dominant post presence is worthless in the nba if we don't have guards who can shoot. Put any of the best centers in the league history on this team and we are still struggling. The warriors have no respect for our guards and just build a wall in the paint. The best players ever aren't scoring on 3 guys digging in. And no the rockets weren't ever a championship contender with Yao. The one season we might have had a chance Tmac went down first lakers just took us lightly cuz we didn't have any stars.
They countered the fronting by having yao come from the left block and moving to the right block with a teammate setting a backscreen. Yao could come to the right block from under the screen or towards the key on the top side of the screen and pop for a jumper. The fronting did bother Yao but they worked their way around it. Yao would just have to execute enough of those shots to keep them from fronting him on a consistent basis. Whatever they did, it would work way better than Sengun crappy ass hook shot.
