Fair point about defensive pressure. Jalen is definitely being face guarded and blitzed more. But that also really highlights the problem because a true offensive star usually punishes those doubles by creating easy plays for others. Jalen's progress is good, but he still struggles reading defenses. Sengun, despite easier coverage, is expected to create for an entire offense without a true floor general. Both have areas to grow, but the context doesn’t erase Sengun's overall stronger impact so far. Which has been my entire point. Sengun has had a higher positive impact thus far in the playoffs between the two, and that's not really debatable. I don't even want to pit them against each other, but folks kept whining that people weren't as critical of Sengun as Jalen when the reason why that is should be clear.
lol you do understand that JG shot selection is way harder and farther from the basket than Alpi … so add in (range and the fact we spam Alpi on the offensive side) no Alpi won’t/shoukdnt go 3/15 or score less than double digits … Alpi missing dunks and bunnies and FTs while turning over the ball (5) game 1 (3) game 2 but improved game 3 ….. . Alpi should be scoring 25+ a game vs GS and is struggling
I just want the Rockets to play them both at the same time. Why not try a Amen-JG-Cam-Bari-Sengun line up, or something like that. It's ridiculous. He scored 26 his first, had 17/16/7 during a JG explosion game, and vastly underperformed the third but still put up 15 and 11. Those missed dunks and bunnies were embarrassing for sure but I think you're underselling Sengun a bit.
Right, that's why his bad games are better than Jalens bad games, which is what I said. But where's the great game? Where's the game we win because of Sengun? Are we going to get any of them? Because that's what we need from him. He can't just go out there and be fine. If he gives us something along the lines of 22/12/4 on average efficiency then I think we're losing in 5. Where's the dominant performance? Can we get one of those? How about more than one?
lmaooo so Jalen gets doubled / blitzed and passes to Alpi or Amen … who then either take a shot or kick it for a hockey assist…. Alpi and Amen missed 31 shots in the paint but it’s JG fault he didnt punish GS for doubling and blitzing him not the (Finishers)
You saying this isn't debatable is kinda unhinged dude. Especially given the context of the defensive schemes and Green being a more efficient distributor of the ball. Their scoring efficiency is roughly the same even though Green is seeing more defensive pressure. I honestly have no clue how you can confidently make this claim. You need to be more rational to be taken seriously.
You mean dribbling out the shot clock and throwing a nuclear bomb to Sengun or Amen at the last second?
Last game is a good test to see if people are rational. If you think Sengun played better than Green last game, you need to watch nba games then instead of box score watching.
I want you to count the possessions in which Green did this. Go review game tape and show where this happened. Count them and report back.
you mixing up FVV with JG….I like to play a game and count how many times a game what the shotclock is at when FVV makes the 1st pass - most times it’s between 12-10 seconds remaining Nice attempt, try again
I’m staying focused on overall impact. Sengun still leads in key areas like rebounding, paint scoring, and facilitating the offense, while Jalen's distribution has improved under pressure. Context matters, but it doesn’t change who has carried more of the load so far. No need to get personal about it. I saw Jalen do it more than once.
Are you referring to the season or these past three games in the playoffs? I mean even box score watching would make you conclude that Sengun has been a far worse facilitator and playmaker these playoffs than Jalen.
Don't remember him ever dribbling out the shot clock. The majority of times he passed to Fred who then either bricked an open look, passed to Eason who bricked an open look, or passed to Sengun who then couldn't score on Draymond.
I don't think we're getting any of those this series. How many great Sengun games we've seen this year? It's a rare occasion. We've had some great scoring games a year before. Even he has his scoring touch on for the night, he avoids FGAs as if it's the plague.
I dunno man, I watched every minute of the game and I thought Sengun was better. I thought it was close? I thought they were both bad. Probably a 3/10 game from each of them. I don't think it's super definitive either way nor do I think someone is an idiot or a "box score watcher" if they disagree with you.
Incase you don't have league pass, I do so I can clip any part of the game to support your claims. They have full abc and tnt games stored on league pass. Give me a general timeframe of which quarter you saw these plays so I can help you defend your claim.
Im not underselling Alpi….for as much as we play through him and the position he’s in + his foul line trips.. he should easily average 25+ His rebounding doesn’t impress me because between all the missed shots in this series and majority of his offensive rebounds are off his own missed bunnies (Angel Reese) - look at Adams in way fewer minutes avg damn near same as Alpi
Both played bad. One played bad because the opposing team thought he was Steph Curry level of dangerous relative to the team around him
I'd say we've probably seen about 20 this year, so 1 in 4 games? But the playoffs are also a time to rise to the occasion, great players do this, that's why we have the term "playoff riser." It doesn't just have to be points, I'm not expecting him to score 38 like Jalen did, that's not his game. He's an all around player. But to pick a random game from this season as an example, he had 25/14/5 on 11-15 shooting against the Knicks, and was a +14 in a win. I would count that as "the Sengun game" if it happened. But it doesn't just have to be points, and it doesn't just have to be the box score either (even though I'm just throwing out a box score for an example here). We'll know it if we see it. Play great, be impactful on both ends, make big plays, win the game for your team. He's done it a lot and he needs to step up and do it now.
Talent is nebulous I guess. I consider talent to be more than just athletic ability. As for SGA, his age 22 season was really the first season where it became clear that he could maybe become an elite player. I loved his quickness, and he is the player that I compared Green to when it came to one elite trait, both had the same quickness that a young Rod Strickland or Alan Iverson had.
