Fred isnt wort nearly what hes paid, but i think that the hope was by now was that Jalen and Alpi would be carrying us offensively. Fred is basically supposed to be what Mike Conley is to Ant. We'll probably keep Jalen so Fred needs to go. Honestly im fine with moving both Im ok keeping Jalen and adding someone like KD who takes the #1 option tag and let Jalen and alpi be secondary and tertiary options.
But he's failing miserably at that. 27% from the field and 21% from 3 is bad for Mike Conley or Fred Van Vleet. It's bad for even a one way defensive PG like Gary Payton or Marcus Smart or Davion Mitchell. Whether he's making $1m or $40m, whether he's playing 15 minutes or 40 minutes, this is horrifically bad. Jalen, Alpi and Amen should be better AND Fred Van Vleet is ******** the bed. I don't understand why we have to compare these guys when we're talking about 27% from the field and 21% from 3. It's not like he's killing it on assists either, just 4 assists per game. Even if all the young guys were peaking and we were winning this series, if FVV were averaging these numbers in a Mike Conley role it would be an F for his performance. His intangibles don't excuse this. Maybe if he were like 38% from the field and 32% from 3 and we were winning we could excuse it. Other people's poor performance has nothing to do with it. His role, salary or minutes don't excuse it. This is on FVV and to some extent Udoka for overplaying him so much. Not necessarily directed at you because I saw you said we should let him walk but wanted to highlight just how bad he's been.
Amen can’t run an offense. Anybody who’s watched his career with the rockets until now can see that.w hair need to go hard I the offseason for a playoff caliber pg. don’t have to be a star but needs to be a threat. A Colby White, or dare i say even Colin sexton(who i not even a big fan of) would be an upgrade.
It's not just that he's shooting 27% from the field and 21% from 3. It's that he's averaging 41 minutes a game. So we're stuck for almost the entire game with his inability to make shots AND the slow pace he plays at because he has no quickness. That's on the coach more than Fred.
We dont have any plays to run an offense. Amen pushing the pace is better than FVV and Ime's clipboard.
He doesn’t do that. Amen has been out there as the primary ball handler when FVV has been out or off the floor and he doesn’t push the tempo like you say. He doesn’t run the offense. He doesn’t get the offense I their spots to sets. He does nothing like a floor general . Stop saying this stupid ish. If you trap amen or apply presure(like how they do Jalen) amen becomes useless and jsut passes out if he doesn’t commit a turnover. He can’t beat double teams or traps
He did some good things in the 1st half, but his 2nd half was total ass. He’s a declining player and it’s plain for all to see. He’s basically relegated to a deep 3pt shooter and he hasn’t made many of those this yr. No chance to score inside. No chance to get to the rim. So slow. He doesn’t even have a mid-range game anymore. The size is an absolute killer because all the other intangibles are declining with age and injury. Not the kind of player that will age like CP3. We need to move on. It doesn’t even matter if Fred somehow finds the fountain of youth in this series. It’s time to move on from Fred.
Said it 1000x. Jalen is the chosen one for this franchise. When he scores 30, they've only lost once all season. You can't have your best player consistently scoring <10pgg in playoff games. This loss has nothing to do with FVV's contract size. They signed him to only a 2yr guaranteed contract for a reason. Ya'll need to stop obsessing on FVV. Those of ya'll that keep bringing up his contract use basic logic.
I get that Fred’s contract is what it is, but you don’t expect to get below average production on that 2nd year. Fred has been a below average point guard this season. He didn’t even shoot 40% from the field this season. FROM THE FIELD! that’s why I’m so disappointed in Fred. I was a huge Fred guy last season, but he’s actually hurt the team this year. I don’t even want him back on a discount anymore. I could have lived with average play.
Love his leadership. I don't think Sengun takes the role he took on if not for FVV. KPj always looked the other way. But man, it's difficult seeing him trying to get around his defender. An Aquaman pick does nothing to get him space. It's like he is stuck in quicksand
Y'all watching some other game where anyone else besides FVV can actually execute an offense? You've been dogging FVV all year but the answer is actually no one else is ready or capable to step into that role. This isn't about Ime either. This team just isn't as good as you think it is.
What the hell games have you been watching? Amen has been awful with the ball in his hands this series.
If Fred can make a shot, then the Warriors defense may actually need to know he exist, and the other guys can show off their talent against normal defense. There was a thread when a poster asked if shooting is overrated cause the Rockets were #2 seed without being able to shoot. Well, here's the answer. Getting their butt kicked by a 7th seed without their 2nd best player on the court.
2025 playoffs is house money. Relax. FVV is not the future of this franchise. Getting upset about FVV is like blaming your wife's grandmother for your bad marriage. Sure it's a thing but at best, it's a peripheral problem, and it's also not a long-term issue. The root issue is working stuff out directly with your wife ...or get a new wife. Wife = Jalen Green Grandmother = FVV Ya'll really need stop obsessing on FVV. Few of ya'll give FVV credit for helping the Rockets there yet are quick to blame him when they aren't better than they are (as if #2 wasn't good enough).
I would decline his option. You can take the money and retool around this roster. hes worth maybe 24 a year, id go elsewhere tbh in free agency, after making a big trade for a point guard.
The problem that most of us see, is that Stone is going to extend FVV which makes him a long-term problem, not so much because of Fred, but because Ime will never send him to the bench where he belongs. The fact that FVV has sh*t the bed so bad this series and Ime has still played him the most minutes and on the ball should make it very clear, that as long as Ime is coach we will not be a serious contender. We were the 2nd seed but by 4 games from being a play-in team. I suspect we extend FVV and pretty much just run it back next year with the same cast and the same tired system. About the only way we can contend, is if Amen and Sengun become good shooters.
