FVV needs to go if he asks for more than 10m/year

I don't care how good he plays from now on. Cam and Reed lost the whole year, adding nothing much to their skill set. If FVV stays in the team, he will only harm their development and we will still suck at the play offs. We need to draft another guard and let them learn the game next year

 

I'll be honest, I'm not sure I understand your position here. I get questioning Green, and maybe you're right that FVV will have a big game. But...FVV's been pretty bad for a while. The last 20 games, he's averaged 11 ppg on a truly terrible .46 TS%.

So, Green "is what he is" despite just turning 23, but our 31 yr old max contract PG is going to bounce back?

FVV needs to go so that our young guards can develop. Good guy, but his presence is hindering their growth, even if it meant no playoffs, almost impossible with the play in scheme. Sheppard and Cam need lots of minutes next year.

 

I'm completely against that. All they'd be doing is converting a lousy starter into a lousy reserve. And I'll keep repeating it. I do not trust Ime to move Fred to the bench if he's on the roster next season. He'll continue favoring him over Reed and any other PG they have.

Playing FVV for 40 minutes when he can't make a shot is inexcusable. Play Cam, do SOME-thng, but F***, quit doing what you're doing. Which is nothing.

 

This team badly needs Josh Giddey.. a young lengthy PG who has a pass first mentality and is a threat from the 3 while being able to play solid defense.

Fred was fine for mentoring the youngins on good habits and such but he is too much of a streaky chucker to play the point on a team that's trying to win it all.

Also Giddey's asking for 30M/year which I see as a steal compared to what FVV is making.. The only problem is he's a RFA, which CHI will match at that salary so you gotta hand him some type of poison pill contract to incentivize CHI from not re-signing him or give them a S&T.

 

I've been as critical of Fred as anyone, but I still maintain he was a better fit for the team in 2023 than Harden given where the Rockets were at the time. Obviously if you offer me a direct swap of Fred for James right now, I take that in a heartbeat. But I don't know if the 2023-24 season plays out as well for the Rockets in terms of their young core developing if Harden had been dominating the ball so much.

As for Giddey, that ain't happening. The Bulls will resign him. And honestly, I don't think the Rockets have to go out and spend 30-40 mil on another PG to replace Fred. First, let's see where the Phoenix pick winds up. Then they have to decide how big a role they want Reed to have next season. Does he start from opening night? Do they try to develop him to be the starter by midseason? Do they make a trade for a ball dominant guy like KD? If any of those are on the table, why commit tens of millions to another PG(or Fred)?

 

Giddey is a career 33% on 1.1 3pm with a slow release and is hunted on defense.

Fred on the other hand is legitimately a good 3pt shooter and defender

Fred has the lower usg rate and shot attempt rate as well. Fred averages 1 less assist per 36 than Giddey but also 1.4 lower turnovers as well.

I'm not sure your correctly evaluating their games here

 

I ain’t paying Fred $30 mil. We just witnessed an entire season of bad basketball from Fred. I’m glad he’s performing in the playoffs. It doesn’t change the fact that Fred is not worth $30 mil

 

If the Rockets get an offensive engine or develop one, a low turnover PG to setup up the initial action and then become a catch and shot threat that excels at guarding different sizes of players may be useful. These things win games even if casuals can't see it.
