Two movies that I like from the last two years that are now on video:

98 - PI - an "indie" thriller about a math genius that everyone wants a piece of...beautiful because it is black and white with no grey tones, so everything is in stark contrats.

99 - Being John Malkovich - very original and well done. The first hour is some really funny stuff.

If you want a rare movie rent The Uninvited, it has a mutant cat and George Kennedy.

    BobFinn*,

You're thinking of the Coen Bros.' The Adventures of Barton Fink.

Anything they do is great. I love Fargo and The Big Lebowski. Blood Simple, Miller's Crossing and Raising Arizona are also classics.

What about Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia? That's one messed up movie. Sam Peckinpah (sp?) was great. My favorite movie, outside of Pulp Fiction, is Stanley Kubrick's The Killing, the "Pulp Fiction" of the 1950s.

Has anyone ever seen Joe's Rotten World? If you haven't, you won't. I saw it at the 1995 Houston Worldfest. It's about a guy who becomes obsessed with his graduate thesis. Unfortunately, it's not on video anywhere.

A couple of people have mentioned the fact that they like Gary Oldman, but no one has mentioned Nil By Mouth, which I thought was outstanding. He's not in the movie, but he wrote and directed it, and I'd recommend it highly.

Oh, and Hoop Dreams is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen ... it's about basketball, but so much more as well. Definitely counts as a movie, got a cinema release.
