Time for an updated Green review. While it is true that lack of spacing hurts Green, the blowout performance in game 2 did not come as a result of green driving to the rim more as a result of spacing (which is what jof's argued heavily, he actually needs to take less 3s and drive to the rim more, he played great when sengun was out last year etc. ). It was mainly a shooting performance, which I think was the correct strategy, because he doesn't yet have the tools, at least cannot display them consistently, to be driving to the rim efficiently. He doesn't have a drop shot, takes usually tough shots and tries to solve things by using his athleticism, usually trying to dunk the ball or lay it up. This results in his inconsistent scoring because when he can do it, it looks perfect, and pretty bad when he can't. I see this kind of play similar to Ja Morant, a (potential) superstar who doesn't play winning basketball. But Green is certainly not on the Ja Morant track. His mindset is right. He improved his defense significantly. He shows flashes of learning the offensive skills he needs to be consistent. In the first game he dumbheadedly tried to go to the basket all the time. In the second game he was more shifty to get open looks and looking for passing angles, which is the main promising thing for the future. I don't think he will improve a lot on the 3pt but he can be the sga of shooting guards if he can improve his game inside the arc . As he learns to depend less on his athleticism, he will be more consistent. I always expected his development to be slow and have no problem with it as long as he is improving and he is putting the effort to improve. The idea of trading him is ridiculous. He just might not be the 1a player on a championship team, just like Amen and Sengun. We might have have 3 borderline 1a options but no real one. I still think this combination can be good enough for a title, since they are very young and seem to be getting along great.
Oh is he still going? I'm just poking him whilst he's on ignore now because he pissed me off suggesting I was in any way right-wing/racist which I find extremely offensive when he's projecting his toddler-esque grasp of politics on to me. Glad I'm riling him though, he deserves it for being a weird little lunatic.
Still going, and still inventing words while lecturing others on grammar. I am going to assume it is a Kaufman-esque commitment to a bit.
My assumption was either very young or speaking English as a second language maybe, because the fake words kind of resemble real ones which typically shows a slightly under-developed understanding of a language. It's like when people say "irregardless" or other similar common foibles. I work with a lot of people who speak English as a second language and they do the same. It was funny though using completely made up words whilst lecturing people on use of language with such unsophisticated and inarticulate phrasing.
My English is that bad you thought I called you a right winger huh? Would it be even more pathetic on my part if you learned English is basically my first language? Ya man I'm that stupid. English is my primary language and I have people like you who believe it might not be because my grammar and spelling is THAT poor. Obviously this hurts my core identity and pride because you attacked by belief in myself of being a superior intellectual. But I guess your moral high ground here is only held together by a belief that my rants in the past few pages are a purposeful exercise on what I perceived as me being intelligent rather than being sincerely triggered. I'm a person who isn't shamed from being triggered because of my moral clarity and having strong convictions. Is that why you try to frame my "anger" here as a anger that results from some sort of intellectual chip on my shoulder rather than having just strong moral convictions and having no shame in expressing them?
I think that he has shown he can do that now in the regular season to be fair, but for him to be the player he needs to be he NEEDS to have his "March Jalen" performances going forward in the playoffs, whilst his regular Jalen is his stronger consistent play. The fact remains he has more monster games than the majority of players his age, that's not nothing and that's the "unique skill" that he actually has - when he's on he's putting up easy 30-40 pts on insane efficiency the like of which is so rarely seen in the league that when you check the numbers of the other people to do it they're bonafide heavyweights, HOFers and people in the GOAT argument, and that's not remotely an exaggeration. But he needs to raise his floor parts where he's off, not his fire parts where he's on. I think it's very under-discussed how significant the bond is with our main guys though. Sengun is the clear leader and heart of the team, but nobody seems to see that the person he lifts up most (not with play, with just who he is) is actually Jalen. If Jalen can just raise that floor those 2 are one hell of a duo and we've got Amen there just playing superhero (villain? lol) and facilitating everything else that makes us successful. I'm still not remotely out on Green, I just hope he keeps pushing and lives up to the faith.
@fchowd0311, I appreciate your passion for the politics you believe in. But I would suggest to you that with all the time you're wasting here on CF trying to prove your point(s), you'd be much better served spending that part of your time in a situation where you have a better chance to change some minds, whether online or in RL. As you've already seen, CF isn't that place, and definitely not the GARM. Remember, but the more people that put you on ignore for thread-clogging, the fewer are left to hear your basketball takes.
Which is actually a damn shame, because I've had many enjoyable basketball discussions with them. There's an acceptable level of "batshit crazy psycho obsessive nutjob" I can take though, and the threshold was more than exceeded. Besides, it gets old having a battle of wits when your opponent persistently shows up unarmed.
My rants political or basketball wise on this message board are more for myself as some of my opinions expressed in public in a work setting could lead to termination and being unemployable. What I try to do is try to represent a brown person from a Muslim background who represents "America" when I did things like be in Marine infantry surrounding myself around people who say words like "sand n***er" as a regular part of their vocabulary and those same people seeing a humanized face of those that they label as such. That's the best I can do on my part in real life. And some of those people I became life long friends with and those same people who used to say terms like that now are critical of MAGA and I like to think me being a humanizing face is a large part in them not being as easily brainwashed by hate rhetoric. But I understand where you are coming from in that a lot of people here will quickly disengage the moment they feel the slightest bit of discomfort and eventually I'll be yelling into a void. I get that.
The mental gymnastics are incredible these days on the board. "Jalen Green hasn't shown he can drive to the rim consistently with horrendously bad spacing, so that proves that spacing would not help Jalen Green in getting to the rim". Are you insane? First of all, Jalen Green has proven he can get to the line 6+ times a game in his career. That would be #11 FTA in the league today. You create space for that guy to do it more. In fact, even if your SG was Desmond Bane - if you're feeling like you want more points or consistency in his game, you'd increase the amount of drives available to him because drives can stabilize your performances whereas jumpers have a higher potential for deviation from the average. Secondly, spacing wouldn't only improve Jalen Green so that's not a JOF thing. It would improve Amen. It would improve Sengun. We don't have to prove that spacing helps people get to the rim easier. That's a fact of basketball. If you have more space in the paint, your perimeter players simply have fewer players between them and the rim. What on earth do you think a crowded paint does to a post player? How about a guy in Amen who can't shoot at all? Finally, every single time we've ever had to increase our spacing due to injuries, Jalen Green has popped off. We've said very clearly, if the driving lanes open, then it does also open the possibility of 3PT% improving too. The reason this happens is HIS defender - when there's spacing - can't afford to push up on the scorer. They have to give more space too and respect the drive. This can increase your 3PT%. That's why spacing is treated like gold in the NBA. It has compounding effects on the player and the whole team. Because now your SG has to be doubled, and other people are left open more often. What a weird flex to dig your heels in against a fact. Get better spacing. NO HE WON'T PROVE THAT HE CAN GET TO THE RIM REGARDLESS OF SPACING BECAUSE THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF SPACING. THAT'S NOT A LOGICAL TEST. WHAT YOU WOULD SEE WITHOUT SPACING IS INCONSISTENCY ON DRIVES AND THUS A HIGHER THAN AVERAGE INCONSISTENCY IN YOUR WHOLE SHOT DIET. Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun had the same TS% this season you monkey. Amen Thompson had to limit his FGA to keep his efficiency high you monkey. We SUCK as an offensive team, what on earth are you doing arguing against spacing? That's like arguing this offense is good enough. Is that what you're saying? What a joke to be arguing in 2025 as though we live in a fish bowl. Undig your heels, you're looking more like an idiot with every layer of Green's development.
He is 23, he already showed you how high his peak is as he ages and grows he will be more consistent as he gains strength, builds muscle, improves his ball handling, gets more experience etc Plus you can already see his consistency has improved from previous years. Last year he was only good from March but sucked every other time but now he is amazing, good or average most games he plays. People just jump on the occasional bad game and go "see? told you he is inconsistent!" without even acknowledging his bad games have been the minority this year. The problem with most posters here they act like Jalen is the same guy now at 23 as he is once he reaches his prime, when looking at the past 4 yrs he has improved on some aspect of his game whether thats defense like last year or 3 pt shooting like this year.
I don’t think that being confrontational online is the best way to be a “humanizing face for brown people”, though. Mostly because nobody here actually KNOWS each other. It’s not like the Marines, where you’r around each other 24/7–we don’t know what you look like, what you sound like, what your name is—and that anonymity makes forums fun, but it also makes it easy for people to start slinging **** at each other. I’m pretty sure most of the discussions here would never get so vitriolic if they were happening offline, simply because most people don’t have the energy for it. The last thing I’ll say is that I appreciate your passion for the Rockets, I did even when we used to have long winded disagreements on how far James Harden would take us (an debate that you pretty soundly won when he left in 2020..). I’m glad we’re on the same page on lots of things, basketball-wise. And I really really don’t think you need to be so defensive on Clutchfans, about ANYTHING. It’s reeeeallly not that serious.
Like I said, my posts here are more for myself in terms of a place to rant and offload my opinions I keep close to my chest in real.lofe because we love in a time where something like my political views married with my ethnicity could make me unemployable or even worse... Results in me being sent to CECOT. My method to solve bigotry in real life amongst my peers, coworkers etc is being a normal brown dude who isn't scary.
Trust me on this. People who don't like me in this thread in the past three pages probably don't want the stink of you being on their side. If you want to help the pile on hate fest towards me, you should probably stay clear because I don't think many posters respect you either. Have the basic dignity of self awareness to realize that dude.
