OL got picked over (not that many had a chance of dropping to 25) and passed on Conerly and Simmons (we’ll see in due time)

Was Jackson their guy? :D One pick before (of course)

    4. OT Campbell
    7. OT Membou
    9. OT/G Banks
    12. G Booker
    18. G/C Zabel
    24. G Jackson
    29. OT Conerly
    32. OT Simmons

Would have had to give a future first for those first three guys, possibly Booker too.

Just looking at guys the Texans had top 30 visits with or showed interest in through the draft process, it's interesting that Simmons' name doesn't pop up. A lot of the other guys taken today did, but there's one other guy who stands out who would make sense in the early 2nd: Charles Grant from William & Mary. He was a zone guy in college, and that seems to be the kind of offense Caley wants to run.

I don't know any more than anyone else, but I'm just putting 2 and 2 together here. I think he might be the guy they like at 34.

Well it seems the Texans didn’t love the O-lineman at 25. But there was likely a potential fit at 34 from the next group.

As a fan, it seemed either The Oregon or the Ohio State LT was a fit. But who know whom Caserio truly wanted or wants.

This. Future picks are iffy in the NFL. Remember the "Damn Caserio..." thread OP? Turns out the pick we gave up for Will wasn't a top 5 pick.

So you agree that the trade was an overpay?

Simmons was the one guy I never really wanted. Not just because of injuries, but because of everything we've heard about his character in the draft process. They just blew up the o-line due to immaturity and character issues; why go get a guy with that as a red flag? I did want Booker, Jackson and Conerly, though. Still some decent guys on the board, and having more picks means you get more shots to hit on prospects.

As the board is now, we should go for our top weapon on our board : Higgens, Harris, Burden, or Noel (maybe Arroyo, but doubt it)

I suspect they might wait on WR though and wouldn't surprise me if they go Savaiinaea, Ratledge, or even Wilson

My main fear of waiting too much longer on our weapon of choice is teams will go on a run there tomorrow. Tomorrow feels like WR/TE and DBs is where we'll see the runs. I'd rather be in front of the WR runs if we have a favorite remaining and I personally like Higgens best. Would be nice to go Higgins, top OL, 2nd top OL/top remaining WR.

So going Higgens, Savaiinaea, Ratledge or Higgens, Savaiinaea, Noel/Kyle Williams would probably be a good start to our draft.

    Of course.
But that doesn’t mean we were given that opportunity either.
If that pick turns into a mid to late 20 pick next year, we still got more value in return

He was too great a risk for us to take.

I think the Texans tried to make trade-up deals with a couple of teams but either the price was too high or the players they wanted were already selected. Therefore, Nick was forced to try and make lemonade out of lemons.

Of course I remember what happened with WAJ, but that was winning the lottery. Trading up always makes me nervous while trading down makes me feel good. Hopefully Nick can draft 2-3 eventual starters tomorrow. For all we know, there isn't much difference between the bottom half 1st rounders vs. the 2nd and 3rd rounders this year.

It does bite we don't have a Day 1 pick to discuss right now, but we'll be very busy tomorrow. :D
