The position the Texans find themselves in is not super desirable. This draft's value is in the 2nd and 3rd rounds is what we're hearing across the board. We ideally lean into that curve. This is also not considered a strong OL draft, and yet we gutted our OL and didn't completely address it in FA where we feel and see the need to spend important assets there. It's not quite this bad, but it's a semi-version of what we see with the dance between Pittsburgh and Sanders. Everyone knows they need a QB, but is Sanders it? Everyone knows the Texans need an OL, but is any of these guys worth a 1st rounder? The strength of this draft appears to be DL and TE. As much as we need OL, if a clear cut first rounder isn't there, but someone like Loveland or Warren is, I hope we have the guts to lean into this year's strength and then address OL in 2nd and 3rd rounds. If we truly love one of the WRs like Egbuka, I would still also love exploring a trade with the Raiders for Mayer. Finding ourselves with Egbuka (1-25), top OL on our board (2-58), top OL on our board (3-79), Mayer (trade 3-89 or better 5-166) would give me a ton of hope going into next season.
If either of the Ohio State guys are there at 58 we would have to immediately jump on that. I'm hoping that in a trade down scenario we manage to finagle a fourth rounder so we can take a stab at Tuten. I'm ok with waiting for a guy like Cam Williams or even Anthony Belton for the tackle spots. My wild card, developmental guy is definitely Logan Brown, dude has THE size, the mold, and really all he's missing is some fine tuning along with experience. Could definitely see him becoming a top 5 Tackle out of this class... but sadly we don't have time to wait and spend on projects, when we have a few of our own that we're still evaluating/developing. All-in-all, I'm ok with waiting on upgrading our line, if we decide the price tag is too high for a guy like Banks or even someone like Booker, who shouldn't cost as much to move up for. I'm praying that at the very least we get two impact players, offensively, out of this draft class. Especially at the line and out at the skill positions (WR or TE). Anything more than that would just be icing on the cake. GO TEXANS!
What makes you think Williams is available out of Detroit? I'm not sure if I missed intel on any displeasure from him or the team, is this just speculation on your end?
Schultz sucks. Re-signing him last year for 3 years was a mistake. Picking Cade Stover in the 4th was another mistake. If healthy, Brevin Jordan is probably our best TE. I'd love to snag Arroyo in the 3rd.
As far as next year is concerned, I think interior OL is more important and I think we can find a plug and play starter in the 1st 2 rounds at that spot. As mentioned by some other posters, I think there is still some depth if you are willing to take a developmental OT in the 3rd or later. I'm hoping with the Patriots likely taking Will Campbell, that Ozzy Trapilo makes it to 79/89. Logan Brown probably needs a year or 2, but wouldn't mind taking him at 89. Will still likely be some nice options at OT even in the 5th. As far as I'm concerned, we need a WR/starting OL with 2 of our 1st 3 picks. With the others, go BPA on the board within reason i.e. no need to take a safety or QB.
Brad Holmes is a very good GM. Don't expect to just pull a fast one over on him. If Detroit is dealing him, it is likely to move up in the 1st round to land a big time pass rusher or getting a younger top tier receiver. We're sitting at 25, so we don't really fit that premise. Could see Dallas giving up 12+76 for 28+Jamo. I get the excitement of a player that would fit well in this receiver room reportedly being available, but need to be realistic about what the cost is, Detroit doesn't have BOB as their GM.
Thanks zee. I wonder why? Not that I don't believe it, but he is becoming a staple within that offense and a great compliment to the toughness that ARSB brings. He makes the offense more explosive and dynamic than anyone they have on the roster, including Gibbs, imo.
That I get, but he's about a year or two even away, unless they net PRIME draft capital for him... I say get as close to a ship (maybe even a title game) with him as you possibly can and if you can't sign him now trade him then. I get it's all speculation but the dude is special there. I honestly don't think they can afford to lose him production unless they bring in someone immediately to replace it.
