Wesneski, Cam and Paredes have all been good for us, and have 13 seasons of team control between them. People acting like we still should have gotten more for one season of Kyle Tucker is a little ridiculous.
@Tomstro Fair enough. Perhaps I jumped the gun. Been a rough week lol. My bad @IdStrosfan went in a bit too much. i just couldn't remember if his start to 2024 being as good as 25. Doesn't really matter now, as the trades been paying off.
It's all good. I apologize for voicing my opinion so strongly at the expense of yours. And FTR: Tucker's start wasn't the same as this year, which has been amazing. But I do think it was great enough that the offer would max out. And I simply think the actual trade is absolutely the best case, and Suzuki ( while good) replacing any of the 3 would be a step down, especially considering salary.
Me to, the kid just looks calm, cool and collected and his first pitch strike % is crazy...........he can be a spot starter, long reliever, he just looks dialed in and throws strikes.
https://tjstats.ca/p/3-under-the-radar-starters-to-watch?r=21sjad&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web Gusto looks good. I wonder if he beats out Wesneski for the last rotation spot if/when the rotation is at full strength. Everyone's said it over and over, but as an organization, we've got pitching figured out. That gives us such a huge floor for the next however many years to continue competing.
His fastball is elite. If he could develop a plus secondary he could possibly be an above average starter.
As choppy as the Astros start has been, they are only 1.5 games back of the number 1 seed in the entire American league. https://www.espn.com/mlb/standings DD
Kaleb Ort threw a clean inning in his last rehab appearance with AAA last night. Fastball was up to 96.4. Assuming no setbacks, he should be activated Friday or Saturday. VanWey will almost certainly be the one sent down. I really liked what Ort showed with Houston last year. A bullpen including Hader, Abreu, King, Okert, Whitley, and Ort could be dominant. I wish Scott still had minor league options because I also think Sousa has a chance to be pretty good. McCullers will start for Corpus Saturday and if all goes well will rejoin the Astros late next week. My guess is he will start one of the games against the White Sox in Chicago May 2-4. If nobody gets hurt by then, it looks like they’d have to send down Bennett Sousa and go with a 6 man rotation for a few weeks. Dubin is set to throw rehab innings for Corpus and should be ready to come back to the Astros in about 2 weeks, although I suspect they’ll take their time bringing him back. No recent meaningful updates on timelines for Garcia, Javier, France, Trammell, or Leon.
Dezenzo is showing why he earned a spot on this team. If feels like the more he plays the better he does. There is playing time for him if Espada keeps Dubon on the bench, and starts resting Altuve, Walker, and Paredes occasionally.
reading this makes me giddy for the Astros pitching potential . We seemingly have a lot of avg to above avg and a few TOR guys on the team. If they all come back and perform the way we think they can then it might make things easier to flip a pitcher or 2 for a nice bat
For the first time since 2022, I feel like we have full depth with pitching, both for starters and relievers, and that's even before the reinforcements that should be on the way.
I would feel comfortable with Brown offering any 2 of Arrighetti, Gusto, Wesneski, Ullola, and Blubaugh for an elite CF or 2B bat with more than 1 year of control. Houston may not have a great farm but they have valuable tradable pitching depth.
I expect the pickings to be very slim and prices very high, so elite was probably a poor word choice. Brandon Lowe, Brendan Donovan, Jake Cronenworth, Lars Nootbar, and O’Neil Cruz would be the short list of guys I think could be available and reasonable targets, but not all of them would be worth 2 of the pitchers I listed. Luis Urias would be a cheaper option I’d be interested in. Dark horse options might be Xavier Edwards and Jordan Westburg.
