Well both are playing for contracts… Tucker is finally able to be the man in the situation he is currently in. I’m happy that he is having success, and he should have a great season. Let’s see how he does in the playoffs, but that is what matters the most. He wasn’t great in Houston during the playoffs. Bregman went to a place where he just kills it, and if he keeps it up, he will be signing a new contract at the end of the season. I wish he was still with Houston, but I’m happy for him as well. If Dana can add one more bat barring any major injuries to this current team, this team will be on top of the AL. We have guys that are starting off slow, but we could have been easily 6 to 7 games above .500 right now if guys were playing to their expectations. Pitching is what is going to be the difference for Houston. I hope it can continue because I believe others will rebound quickly from the slow start.
I'm having a hard time figuring out who gets sent down when McCullers and Ort get activated, and then Spencer in a few weeks.
Go look at the astros stats. The 2 best OPS on the team are Paredes and Cam Smith- we have them for 9 more combined years. And the pitcher we got is doing just fine as a BOR guy and we have him for 5 more years. The Tucker trade was both highly necessary and a masterstroke, and no astro fan should even slightly consider regretting it.
Yeah my guess is they go to a 6 man rotation (or 4+1 tandem) when McCullers and Ort come up, and Sousa and VanWey get sent down. Arrighetti is still far enough away that injuries could create a spot, but Gusto and Wesneski are the only other pitchers with minor league options. I’d think they’ll slow play Arrighetti’s return.
I think he gets at least until the break in Houston. I would like to see him get a torpedo bat to try. That might take his mind off of what elevation he is playing at and that could be all it takes to solve his problems.
It will be a master stroke if we can extend Paredes for another 2-3 years this off season. I will miss Tucker and Bregman but their production will be covered nicely for less money than one of them would have cost us. I also think Wesneski has some improvement ahead of him. Whatever he contributes is a bonus.
I just said it is hard to see them doing so well, not that I wouldn't have done it. This team will be defined by how well McCullers and the other injured pitchers do. Once we get Walker, Alvarez, and Smith comfy we should have enough offense if we get McCullers and Arrenghetti back......and if Garcia or Javier come back even better. DD
Don’t think this team has much need for JP France regardless. Wesneski has way better stuff and will be the 6th man once McCullers and Arrighetti are back.
Yes, he does have a longer rope here. There's no positional realignment or prospect that's nipping at his heels. The Statcast data suggests he could be in for some significant positive regression if he starts squaring up balls. Your torpedo bat idea has a lot of merit.
do wonder if tuck started this hot last season, maybe Dana could've snagged Seiya Suzuki. Maybe not. Trades starting to pay dividends it seems and added needed depth. Rare instance of a win-win for both sides. Esp if Cam and Isaac continue to get better. Could always be worse.
JP isn't special though, he is like a 4th or 5th pitcher at his peak, the others are eithers 1s or 2s - at the worst 3s. DD
What? Tucker had a huge start to 2024. There was MVP "if he keeps this up" talk this time last year. The trade Brown DID get is better than one that would have included Suzuki and he has a full no trade clause and publicly stated that there is a "very small universe" of teams he would consider waiving it for with a team guaranteeing him a position in the OF rather than DH being the major issue. He is very poor defensively. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/12/latest-on-seiya-suzukis-trade-candidacy.html
What what...? Omg forgive me i forgot his hot start! I stand corrected. And omg i didn't look up his contract or no trade clause... it was just a random thought. I don't understand why the responses on here have to be so condescending at times.
It is a fair question. His contract has a provision that lets the Astros terminate within 45 days of the start of the season. Hence, he has until then to show some progress on offense. If not, there is a good financial incentive to cut him, split 2B between Altuve and dubon depending on whether we have a GB heavy pitcher going, and give LF ABs to Dezenzo.
Really? I didn’t think he was being condescending. You forgot that Tucker was absolutely gangbusters to start the season and he was reminding you, since it was kinda tied to your central point.
