- Pedro holds the record - the other HOFs are their best season - Hader has two years 300+, but relievers are different, right?... btw, he's currently 494 .
Only when Chas is being put in LF as a defensive replacement but Altuve's bat should stay in the game. But I want Dezenzo to get more starts in LF which would mean Altuve starts at 2b. This should never happen with Framber, Brown, or McCullers starting.
I think Dubon needs to stay where he is and play till we get him traded. I do not want him on the roster in the second half as he will walk for no return if that is the case.
This goes against the entire history of what anyone in baseball ever does. Defensive subs are made late in close games when teams have leads. Maybe they should be made in blowouts too, but teams make them in close games - the idea being that defense is more valuable than offense in that one very specific situation. Yordan has been pulled numerous times over the last several years for that reason. No one cares in a 4 run game in the 9th whether you have a defensive guy out there or not as one defensive play is unlikely to decide the game.
The bottom line is it depends on how much confidence you have in the pitching. Any manager will and should get roasted if he removes impact bats from the game and the other team ties it up or takes the lead. ( like in Seattle)
https://www.chron.com/sports/astros/article/direct-to-consumer-streaming-future-schn-20287018.php TIL that the Astros are the only team without a direct streaming option, and that their deal with Comcast and DirecTV runs thru 2032. That is possibly the longest (or at least one of the longest) dinosaur RSN deals in MLB. While that sucks for Astros fans, because we may not get a cheaper streaming option until 2033, it does likely give the Astros a competitive advantage as the RSN deals pay out more to the teams than direct streaming deals. Who knows how it’ll actually play out, I would be surprised if DirectTV and Comcast were able to remain viable for another 7 years.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6300674/2025/04/23/astros-cam-smith-outfield-transition/ Post trade deadline lineup: LF Altuve 3B Paredes DH Alvarez 1B Walker 2B Lowe SS Pena CF Smith C Diaz RF Dezenzo Bench: Dubon, Caratini, Meyers, who cares
Credit where it's due, the Tucker trade was a masterpiece by Dana Brown. All three of them look like long-term cornerstones so far. Paredes can hold his own at 3B better than I expected too.
Paredes is probably the most ideal extension candidate on the roster. I’m hoping they buy out 2-3 FA years this offseason. A core of Smith, Yordan, and Paredes is enough to keep the offense chugging for the next half decade.
Sorry, I missed that. Thanks. Edit: can’t read it.Don’t have a subscription. If you get some time could you please paraphrase it.
The Astros are two games behind the current top two teams in the American League and they have series wins over the current top two teams in the National League (Padres and Mets).
Thinking about this a little more, Luhnow’s era was defined by the upside of tanking, but also significant inherited talent; the 2017 roster was built around Correa (1st overall pick), Bregman (2nd overall pick), Springer (inherited), Altuve (inherited), and Keuchel (inherited). Further on, he added key pieces in shrewd trades (Yordan, McCann, Greinke, Cole, JV) and free agent signings (Reddick, Yuli, Morton). Brown doesn’t have the draft pick capital Luhnow had, but he’s inheriting a boatload more talent. Given how good the outcome looks on the Tucker trade, I’m really hoping Brown is aggressive with trading other pending free agents, whether that’s Framber this season at the deadline, Bryan Abreu this offseason, or Walker/Pena/Paredes in the 2026-2027 offseason.
If you’re on an iPhone, you can read NYT/Athletic articles without a subscription by switching to reader mode. Anyway, the summary is that Smith has been taking reps in CF before games. The front office and coaches have been extremely impressed with how quickly he’s taken to RF and given his elite speed (he’s one of the fastest RF in baseball so far this season), they think he can handle CF. Rome goes out of his way to highlight that the idea is just in its infancy and they are not planning on moving him to CF anytime soon, but we’ve seen already how moves like this can seemingly come out of nowhere and be implemented swiftly. Smith reminds me a bit of a pre-injury Kris Bryant, and Bryant was fine in CF. It would be a big time way to maximize Smith’s value and deepen the lineup (not to mention get Dezenzo everyday at-bats by opening up RF).
Thanks so much.I would be so happy for this. Getting Dezenzo into RF and hoping Rogers turns into an average or above average 2b would really deepen our lineup and set us up for quite a long run as contenders. Brown knocked it out of the park with the Tucker trade. If the Cubs re-sign Tucker it has been a win/win trade which is great for everyone as long as the other team is in the NL.
I dunno what to make of Rogers so far. He's running a nearly replacement wRC+ with a massively spiked K rate and no power despite an increased launch angle. His EVs, barrel rate and hard hit rate are all within normal limits if not on the higher side but there's just not much production.
Hard to see both Bregman and Tucker over .300.....Tucker has more than 50% of his 32 hits being extra bases too..... DD
