I scored 4 Pearl Jam and Pixies concert tickets for the family this Sunday. It has been 20 + years since I saw Pearl Jam. Anybody see them recently?
Saw Dave Gilmour at MSG on Wednesday. Dude has aged like fine wine. Guitar work still exemplary, and his voice is the same. One of the best shows I've seen in the few years. That was supposed to be my last concert of the year but I just lifted Morrisey tickets for Wednesday as the reviews from the Houston and Dallas shows were really good. And I've never heard How Soon Is Now live. And my daughter is really into the Smiths so I'm taking her. (I know he only plays like 3 Smiths songs but whatever..)
I just saw The The this weekend. It was the last show on the US part of the tour. There was no opening act. The The played their new album in its entirety for the first set and then a second set of songs from other albums. The show was amazing. Matt Johnson's voice is as strong as ever. It was such a fun show and at the Shrine Auditorium, the venue could not be beat.
My itinerary for 2025, so far: April 26 - 27: May 3: May 30-June 1: June 19: Freaky Deaky fest in Austin on Halloween (lineup not released yet Maybe: Helmet is playing tomorrow, 2/22/25 at Scout Bar in Clear Lake. I was planning on going to Mardi Gras in Galveston but the weather is garbage. hmm NIN is playing Sept 12, but I really don't want to go to the Toyota Center to see them. I prefer to stand on the floor closer to the stage. I went to Jane's/Smashing Pumpkins in 22 and had floor seats but they had chairs, it was dumb to stand there the entire time. Nobody was sitting and the chairs made it awkward. Various sundry DJs Production: I may partner with a promoter I know to go to Poland to put on an EDM festival Some local DJs I know asked me to partner with them on some local all-night shows, haven't decided if I want to do that yet
My daughter is really into Faye Webster so we went and saw her on Wednesday. Much better than I thought she would be. Very chill music for sure but with the cold weather it was a nice vibe. Other concerts coming up- So far I know for sure I’m gonna go see Khruangbin in April for sure. I’m pretty sure a lot of you in Houston will see them that same week. Other than that in between now and then it’s going to be what I can see when it’s convenient. -Bright Eyes is here next weekend -Band of Horses is here in three weeks -Deftones that Saturday the 15th those are all maybe at this point though. Just Houston’s own Khruangbin at the moment.
Went to a Dream Theater show last weekend. Those guys have been doing it for 40 years now and they still kick all kinds of ass, though their singer can't hit those high high notes anymore (and doesn't even try). Really enjoyed it.
I saw Enter the Haggis's farewell tour earlier this year. Not a very well-known band but worth a listen. My son had the honor of playing with them live a few times while they were touring here in Albany. If you like Celtic rock they will grow on you
The better half and I are going to see two Supergrass shows coming up in Melbourne, Australia in June.
Not going to Ubbi Dubbi this weekend, after all. Too much **** on my plate. I did go to this local thing a couple weeks ago. It was surprisingly good, weather was gorgeous, vibes were sublime, people were fantastic.
Saw Houndmouth at White Oak a few weeks ago. Great show. Have tickets to the Outlaw Fest at the Woodlands Pavilion in July that has Willie, Dylan, and (my favorite) The Avett Bros. How was the Khruangbin show? Wanted to go see them at the Pavilion but couldn't make it happen. Saw them a few years ago at 713 and it was fantastic.
I have a quandary- I'm going to Ministry on Saturday, show starts at 6:30 because we're all old ****ers. Die Krupps and Nitzer Ebb are opening. My good friend invited me to his DJ set across town, about 20 minutes away. He's going on at around 10:30. I mistakenly thought I was going to Ministry on Friday and told him yes. He was super excited. Then my wife tells me Ministry is on Saturday. What do you think the odds are of all three bands playing between 6:30 and 10, even partially? I would be OK only catching Ministry for 30 minutes or so, although it would be a bummer. @mikol13, anyone else?
I think it’s possible if the show starts that early. All depends on if the crowd is arriving late and/or what kind of mood Uncle Al is in. How long is your friend’s set? Seems doable. I don’t have tickets but think I’m about to try to get one or two.
