I don't see any of these guys on player options opting out this year, there just isn't enough cap room for them to get paid - Only 1 team has more than $25m in cap space (Brooklyn $91m) Detroit potentially has $24m followed by Chicago $19.8m and Houston $19.2m. if they decline FVV.

For Harden to come here he'd be giving up $12m or so on the first year and more than that on year two (all he could extend for with the over 38 rule in play.)

After Harden & Kyrie there isn't a whole lot of talent in the FA pool.
    2025 NBA Free Agents
    FVV
    Bruce Brown Jr.
    Malcolm Brogdon
    Tim Hardaway Jr.
    D'Angelo Russell

The talent falls off really fast ..... Outside of maybe Tyus Jones (and he's not ideal) I can't say there is a single FA I want as the starter on this team next year that falls within our available cap space or exceptions - that includes FVV.

Aside from Jakucionis and maybe Demin, I'm not sure any of these prospects would actually play on this team next season & I wouldn't expect them to start either - but if a multi-year window is what we're building - that's kinda irrelevant - everything is about the future and we're already ahead of schedule.
Those two maybe you pick at 9, any of the others only come into play on a trade back situation.

Next year's starter probably has to come via trade (and doesn't have to be a big name, just a solid veteran shooter / defender / ball handler) .... then you have Shepard & a rookie fighting for minutes

If you think like that why do you say we need to draft a combo guard. wasting top 10 pick for Reed Sheppard backup doesnt make any sense.

Not if your eventual starting back court is Sheppard & Jakucionis or Demin.

You just need something better than FVV to bridge the gap.

Why would the Rockets want Coby White? They have a similar player in Jalen Green.

Can you pry him away from Cleveland?

He is likely stuck behind Garland if he stays in Cleveland.

Is he ready for a starting spot?

Are other teams in the mix?

What does it cost to get him to Houston?

    Current salary $2,560,975
    BAE $5,134,000
    T-MLE $5,685,000
Room exception (cap space teams) $8,781,000
    NT-MLE $14,105,000

I doubt it. All these teams know how good he looked before his injury - 41% from 3 and a 66% TS. If I'm Stone, I'm making some calls and asking about trading up. Maybe Tari and the pick would be enough

Glad you’re not the GM, we aren’t trading Tari for an unknown unless it’s Harper or Flagg

Were you at the Toyota Center draft party that night?

When the trade was announced (Slowmile + Rudy G for Shane Battier), I thought the crowd was going to charge the stage where the Rockets players and coach were gathered.

Come to think of it, JVG vanished like a fart in a high wind when the announcement came through.

EDIT: And I was prepared to chase after him:

You have to understand that we can't pay all these guys. It's best to get good value out of Tari now (while he's healthy) and get a great prospect on a rookie contract.

How much you think Tari will cost per year?

I see the Rockets moving on from FVV and Jalen before Tari

I just don’t see the value in moving Tari to move up 2-4 spots in the draft for a rookie.

especially since this draft is guard heavy in the lottery

Fair enough. It all depends on the evaluation. If he's not much better than other available players, you definitely don't do it, but if you think he's special, you do what it takes to get him.
Dallas thought enough of Luka to trade their pick, Trae Young, and a future pick to get him.

I think this is our move and the we can make be FVV for Durant and it’s still good even if we don’t

You guys are so worried about the back court, screw it. Trade for Luka and Anthony Edwards. I don’t think this is winning much more games regardless.

    Luka
    Edwards
    Thompson
    Jabari
    Sengun

Naz Reid and/or Kevin Durant should be our targets, unless Giannis wants out. Both will have to be trade candidates. You are right there are no viable free agents and we really don’t have the cap room.

We need competent guard play more than a C/PF. Locking up Stevo, Jabari and Tari will take a good chunk of our cap space.

Then we need to make a move for our starting lead guard
