I know it's early, but do you think the Rox need to make a move to bring someone in to back-up at the 2 guard. I know we have Bowen for the back up three (who has grown on me a little), but do you think we pull the trigger, or just ride with what we have untill Sura comes back.
I just can't see it with our roster right now. We need a better point guard or power forward before we get another SG... If the right deal comes along though, who knows...
Better power forward? Howard and Taylor are one of the top five tandems in the league. When Sura returns... we will be fine at SG. Point guard needs some help... yes.
Scoring-wise you might be right. Howard and Taylor probably are an above average offensive tandem. But when you look at defense and rebounding they are for sure one of the five worst tandems in the league. It would be great to deal them both for Elton Brand, especially when you have Yao on your team, but that's not gonna happen. We definitely need to improve at power forward and sooner or later one of them has to go. But right now we might have bigger roster issues than that.
They're not top 5, if they were the Rockets wouldn't be trying to trade one of them. I'm not sure if you even considered the rest of the league before stating that, because combined they're not better than Duncan, Garnett, Dirk, Webber or Brand their backups don't even matter. Gasol/Outlaw, Murphy/Robinson, Brown/West, Stoudamire/Lampe, Randolph/SAR are all better, and that's just the West, the East should have a handful of teams with better pairs as well. The bench is decent right now, and should be pretty good once Sura comes back.
has everyone forgotten about bob sura already? he is out for a long time, yes. however when he comes back we will be fine on the wing with him and bowen. about the PG issues; sura will help there too. there was an article recently where JVG said that sura was considered the starting PG until he got injured. i wouldn't trade one of our PF's for a 1 or a 2 until we see sura back and healthy.
The problem with Sura is that right now he is hyped a lot because of the last season. He never was a good point guard and he always had problems with his health. It was my first thought when I heard that the Rockets have signed him: When will he get injured again? It's probably only a matter of weeks. When he is absolutely healthy he can make this team better. He is no starting pg or sg, though. But there is a good chance that he will be the successor to Adrian Griffin. We already have a bunch of hustle players in Bowen, Padgett, Spoon and Boki. What we need is another good shooter, which Sura is not. And yes, I know you'll think I'm a pessimist, but I think I'm more of a realist.
It's too bad we werent able to get someone like Lucious Harris when he was dropped by the Nets. He would have been a nice combo guard for us. Yeah, he is kind of redundant with Sura but with Sura's health, I would rather have some insurance than be thin.
I wish the Rockets could make a move for either Jiri Welsch or Marko Jaric. Both could play either guard position or even small forward but can hit the 3pt with consistency. Unfortunatly, I doubt they have anything either Boston or the Clippers want though.
Well, how about Courtney Alexander for help at the 2 spot? Check out this excerpt from a Sacremento Bee article, posted Monday: http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/story/11210908p-12126707c.html "Guard Courtney Alexander has played little because of a sprained left thigh and a sore left foot. Alexander, who reportedly has a $300,000 guarantee on a $745,046 deal that becomes fully payable if he's on the Kings' roster Dec. 1, is in serious danger of not making the team. "He hasn't been able to practice, and he hasn't been able to play," Adelman said of the 27-year-old. "He's really only been ready to play in one or two games and one or two practices. We have to look at other players if he can't go." Not only would Courtney come relatively cheap to us, but he would be more than capable of holding down the back-up 2 and 3 spots. Remember, back when he played with the wizards (the only time he really got signicant playing time), this guy averaged 17 points an night on about 45% shooting while hitting 39% of his threes. Though he is currently injured, his ailments don't seem serious enough to keep him out for significant time (perhaps a couple weeks or so). Also, 27 is a relatively young age too. He could stick around for a while. So, if Alexander is released, do you guys think he'd be a worthwhile pickup?
Courtney Alexander would be a nice pickup if he is healthy. It worries me though that he may be released on a team that REALLY needs SG help with Christie hurt. Either that ankle is really bad or he just can't play like he once did.
