It's amazing what one good game on national TV does for your reputation. If Amen doesn't completely put the chains on Steph, I doubt we would be seeing as much as love for Amen as we are seeing now. I expected him to get a couple of votes prior to that game, but after that game it seems like he catapulted into the top 3 although don't expect him to win it.
this looks like how I'd play against my nephews back in the day on 2K lol. Running circles around 'em. Amen's gonna be a nightmare for years to come.
Playing with Jokic helps get you on the list...also Amen was only a starter half the year - kind of wild he is up there on the NBA leaderboard while only getting 30minutes+/game once Jabari got hurt.
The best part of that video is how it ended with Herro getting his pocket picked and then looking at Adebayo who is behind the play and seemingly either saying "you get him" or "please help me" while Amen goes for a one-man fast break and an uncontested dunk.
It's crazy that he's #2 on the list after playing in only 69 games and averaging only 32mpg on the season due to spending nearly half his games coming off the bench. For perspective, Giannis led the league with 235. I think Amen could get to 200 if his handles improve and he averages 36mpg for all 82 games.
I wonder if Portland will regret not picking Amen almost as much as passing on Jordan and then Durant. Bowie - bust Oden - bust Scoot - ?
Amen is rarely the #1 option in the half-court. Giannis has those dunks because 1) he is the half-court offensive spark plug for the Bucks, and #2) he gets on the glass and is unstoppable. Amen shares that second trait, but otherwise, he's so deferential. Once he has the confidence to initiate, he'll add another 25-50 dunks to his yearly total.
Giannis has the strength to bully his way to the basket or get fouled. To avoid fouling, defenders sometimes let him get his way. Amen relies on his quickness to avoid defender. He doesn't get lots of foul calls. Defenders don't hesitate to get in his way. The Bucks clearly design their offense focused around Giannis. The Rockets don't build their offense around Amen... not yet anyway. Amen actually has better court vision than Giannis. His superior athleticism lets him find open teammates even when he is in the air. It is up to Amen and the team to learn how to use him more on offense.
