The only moves that count for the 2025 award are moves made this league year. Basically from the day after the 2024 nba finals, till april 13th (last day of this season). Any moves made NOT during that time period does not count.
Exactly so you cant say the moves this year are setup moves cuz next year you can say they wont count since they were made this year.
Any move he made this year (drafting reed and the draft picks trade) will only count for this season. If someone thinks drafting reed is a more significant move than trading for doncic, than stone over pelinka is reasonable.
I said Pelinka is the executive of the year in my previous post. I am just replying to the other poster who said the moves made this year dont count as they are setup moves. I think Stone should be in the top 5, that PHX trade is significant.
It’s also impossible to judge the suns trade. It looks good because the nets REALLY screwed up this season though.
How is it impossible its already paying dividends. If you look at the nets they only got a few losses more than suns and thats with them trying to tank. If we had their pick they wouldnt try to tank at all so it would be Suns pick or higher for sure.
I have to admit he's pushed all the right buttons. Having said that, I don't trust the dude at all for some reason. I fully expect him to do something stupid. For now though, it looks like he's playing 4D chess. The roster is stacked. I'd say OKC is about the only team in the league better positioned for long term success, and that's on Stone, so I guess he's earned the benefit of the doubt.
No fan outside of Houston would think a Sengun for Luka trade as anything but one of the most lopsided trade in NBA history. You can try posting this hypothetical on any national NBA discussions places and you will be laughed at for thinking it's even 1% realistic.
I’m in a similar boat. Part of what makes the nets picks trade look good is the nets hired a good coach and totally ruined their season. Another part is the luca trade to make the 29 mavs pick go from very meh to extremely valuable. Did he magically know all that? Or just get lucky.
Precisely. It's a lopsided trade, but I think a GM would be forgiven for thinking, for whatever reason, that Sengun would grow into an amazing player.
This is the 2nd time he bet against Durant and won. Who cares if he is good or lucky, at the end of the day what matters is results.
Agreed, has nothing to do with durant, the reason it looks so good is because of the nets incompetence but ya, lucky or good doesn't matter for an award based on the past. Definitely matters in evaluating him for the future though, can't always count on luck.
Of course you cant count on luck but you also cant count out his achievements merely due to luck. Just cuz Stone was lucky you dont turn around and marginalize those picks which already paid for themselves just this season. Stone has done an A+ job turned around a horrible team with just James Harden and old guys into the 2nd seed full of young studs in just 4 yrs. Moreover the Rox ended up with a chest full of picks despite their rebuild technically over already. Only OKC has done a better job in recent history.
