No he was not, he was hired to coach Harden and Westbrook and they both signed off on the hiring before Westbrook then asked out. Then we gave him a chance to show he was up for the task during our rebuild and he failed miserably.
Plain and simple.... As I get older I find myself reminiscing more often than I care for, but I completely ignore the Rockets Silas Years! His happy-go-lucky demeanor in the midst of all the turmoil that was part of the losing strategy (tanking) made me want to vomit!! In the middle of the Wuhang Corona Virus Epidemic, and all of us having to wear those stupid masks, I know in my heart that he was smiling under his mask while the Rockets are losing night after night! Pathetic!! I don't hate him, he might even be a really nice person/human being, but his aloofness from the reality of his surroundings and what was transpiring before are very eyes rubbed me the wrong way! I wish him well somewhere else!! (P.S) Didn't even touch on his lack leadership, disciple, or development.... I digress Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
I think Silas gets alot of Grace because people's severe hatred of Harden Harden saw the writing on the wall and bounced but "he didn't do it the right way" So alot of the anger about those years are seen as more . .. Harden screwed us on the way out more than Silas was not very good Most can admit that Silar was not great but still many blame Harden for not "leaving the right way" Rocket River
You know I forgot that he was hired while Harden was still here. Looking back on it now, I’m not sure why he was picked to be the coach. Did Harden and Westbrook want someone they could control?
I would rather hear from Eric Gordon. He was proud last year with no 2nd seed. . What? What's so fukin funny?
Silas was unsuccessful. No question. However: 1) the Rockets were tanking. They were trying to lose. There’s no way to judge him on strategy and distribution of playing time without knowing what guidance he was getting behind the scenes to make sure we were losing games. 2) This is not the same team Silas coached. Silas had to deal with a rotation that heavily featured Christian Wood, Kevin Porter Jr, John Wall, Daishen Nix, and Daniel Theis. He didn’t have Amen, Dillon, or FVV. He had baby Jalen, Alpi, and Jabari who were not ready to lead the team yet.
Thanks but wow what a terrible coach. He is so bad he would tank even if he coached the 60's Celtics or 80's Lakers.
He’s the reason we got the picks and he’s a sensible, well mannered and decent human being so I so no reason to hate or spew negative **** about this man.
Silas is the perfect head coach for the Suns. Those stars need a punchbag and Silas is the best in the business.
I see no reason to **** on the man, he clearly didn't work out and I bet it damaged his career more than it damaged the team overall - our rebuild was super fast and efficient. Nice of him to be able to feel pride that some of the kids he brought into the league are managing to see some success, classy guy.
I think for the rosters he had, he did really well. I would say in his 3 seasons, he had a total of one season of one starting level player, and that’s 2nd year sengun.
Rafael Stone big idea signing Christian Wood to a Huge Deal. Trading for Kevin Porter Jr. and Starting him at PG, forcing John Wall to stay at home. Which is a bad move, a really bad look. Both Christian Wood and Kevin Porter Jr. we're really selfish with the ball, only cared about scoring for themselves. Kevin Porter Jr makes a sour face and bad body language when Alperen Sengun scored the ball. Stephen Silas let Christian Wood and Kevin Porter Jr play selfish and hurt the team chemistry. Alperen Sengun not starting really hurt the team, because he can make everyone better because of his passing. Both of those moves really did hinder Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green Development and Lack of Wins. At the Same time needed to tank and get more talented players. Jabari Smith, Amen Thompson with their picks. Paolo Banchero and Victor Wembanyama were the Targets. Amen Thompson is amazing on defense, his shooting will improve.
Silas sucked. He didn’t establish any boundaries with his boss or his players and wasn’t respected by either. He sold out his assistants and took credit for what Weaver did. He didn’t hold his players accountable and coddled KPJ. He also was clueless - and didn’t deserve the credit for running the offense in Dallas, Carlisle ran the offense.
The thing is if the Rockets brass knew about this and still went thru with it.......because they wanted the tank job....
Yes - he was a patsy. He wouldn’t stand up to his boss or his players so he was a perfect target to smile while being **** all over both on and off the court. I still remember him crying about how far KPJ had come - all while KPJ was constantly involved in fights and run ins off the court. Come to think of it - he cried and sulked way too much to be a leader.
