I have a house full of Samsung appliances that are nearing replacement age and I have never been in the market for new appliances before since I previously always rented. My Samsung oven stopped working, and I suspect the igniter has gone bad. Samsung quoted $300+ for the labor for the service call starts at $300 and the part itself bills for $200. I can do it myself, but I am also prepared mentally that it could be the gas valve safety device which would mean I am not going to try to replace that and instead start the journey of buying new appliances. What are your preferred brands for washers, dryers, stoves, fridges, and washing machines? I prefer US manufactured goods, but I also want US owned companies as well which strikes out GE Appliances (Haier) and Frigidaire (Electrolux). I bought a subscription to Consumer Reports and they are very high on LG and BOSCH. Whirlpool and all its sub-brands rank poorly on CR, but I think Whirlpool is the only non boutique game that makes home appliances in the US for a US company. If it was worth it, I’d go subzero/wolf/cove but it’s not like I get added longevity for the cost. It still breaks down.
I don't give a fook about Made in america or not, i just want reliable stuff. That said, they all suck. Get the least fanciest model. Get a warranty. Replaced a 10 year old Samsung washer with a LG one (least fanciest possible) and got a 5 year warranty from Best Buy. Replaced a 22 year old GE dishwasher (loud as hell) with a Bosch 500 series (can't even tell it's on). Next on deck are two Whirlpool fridges that are still going from early 2000! Stay away from LG and Samsung fridges. https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/...-lawsuit-cites-lg-refrigerator-issue/3552575/
I value reliability. And availability of parts and techs when **** goes south. I ended up ordering an igniter from a third party since supposedly it’s the same manufacturer regardless of the oven brand. $20 vs $200.
I am also interested in getting an induction stove over the gas one I have now. Go Green. But that means running a new 240v conduit and busting up a bunch of drywall.
I made the mistake of buying a Samsung Fridge about 4 years ago, was not planning on that so I went cheaper but was still nice.................you get what you pay for, now every few weeks the compressor will start humming and it will stop if I open one of the doors (weird) and then it just goes away but it gets loud. Just waiting on it to go out when I least expect it I`ve read some great thing on Bosch and was going to get one on Black Friday last year at Best Buy but the place was a zoo
100% LG and Samsung suuuuucckkk. I'll never buy another...really, product from them. Their TVs are too expensive and their appliances are ass.
We have Bertazzoni. So far, so good but small sample size(2023). Will bump this thread in 5 years with an update.
Here to pile on, home warranty makes sense here, and all brands are built to fail. Generally the more tech, the more problems. Buy the most basic, cheapest version something you'd deem "good nuff" and be prepared to replace it every 5 years. Recently replaced a 5k fridge that our house came with with a 1500 one, no in door water, espresso or ice dispenser, no touch screen wifi bull ****. Just the size I need, that had good interior lighting, with stainless steel finishing so it doesn't look bad.
If anyone is looking to hit longevity marks in home appliances, they need to live by one motto- "Basic to make it" Just bought a Whirlpool fridge from lowes a year ago that has an ice/water dispenser with simple buttons to control ice settings( no touchscreen stuff). Anyway, i get an email from lowes telling me my manufactures warranty is about to expire and asked if I wanted to extend. I opted not to. One day later, Im grabbing a half gallon of ice cream from the top rack of the freezer, it slips out of my hand and knocks off the springed tab that turns on the light when the doors are open. One fu<king day after the warranty expired. Its not expensive to fix, but man that irritated the hell out of me. this has nothing to do with the quality of things but **** man.
When I had my house built I made sure to get gas everywhere possible water heater, furnace, stove, dryer, outside line for the blackstone. With proper ventilation gas is king IMO.
Timely advice from the repair tech who just left my house for my dishwasher: Frigidaire. He has Frigidaire everything, said he used to work for them directly, everything is rock solid and repairing them is easy.
Bro. My wife and I have had a bad run of failing older appliances over the last two months. Had to replace the following: Water heater Wash machine. Also got an LG. And fridge. Got a whirlpool. The LG wash machine is awesome. The drum turns a different way than the agitator. And plays a song when load is done. Never had a water supply dedicated to the fridge. I will never go back to making ice cubes again.
Ironic that my home internet **** the bed last night and the neighborhood is still down. My smart home is toast right now.
Samsung has the absolute worst refrigerators. I just replaced an 8 yr old French door bottom freezer I bought brand new. I replaced the ice maker twice, Heat clamp, circuit board and siliconed the ice box. Still had to force defrost once every week to two weeks. It finally stopped getting cold in the fridge compartment. I went with the best reviewed fridge, almost all had issues with icemakers. I won’t ever buy another Samsung appliance
I would like to try it but your spot in, that **** is expensive. Its like buying a mattress, you have like 20 minutes to try it out, I bought a mattress 4 years ago and went cheap and I am paying for it, it blows
