It's not just one person potentially. This is a major Trump initiative and it can happen to others. What we care about is American values and our laws that make us great and people in general.

Just because we care about this person doesn't mean we don't care about others in different situations. Stop repeating that dumb ****

Yup. Can't have first hand witnesses to a concentration camp go to the media.

Maybe. But if he does deport U.S. citizens he deems criminals, are you against it or for it?

A non-US citizen who is married to a US citizen and has a child who is a US citizen. Not sure why you think lack of due process that rips an American family apart like this shouldn’t be of concern to Americans. Some of us have/had parents who were not citizens.

I don't believe you, sorry.. Perhaps you do care but most in this thread don't. This guy was not from here and fled El Salvador for a reason...

How would you feel if you found out this guy killed someone in El Salvador? You have to kill to be a member of MS13, he wasn't some random guy...

He fled El Salvador at the age of 16, didn’t he?

The problem is that it is an ever changing argument and not in good faith.

If his position is simply that the Democrats do not do enough to protect the public from criminals - I think that is at least a defensible argument up for debate.

If his argument is that all those that are illegal immigrants must be deported - I think that is a defensible argument, even if I do not agree with it being in the best interest of the American people.

However - the argument isn't that sincere. The position being taken is that all of those being deported are criminals and gang members. Further, the President is the executive and as such can do anything he wants under executive powers. So, the fact that the Supreme Court tells the President that he needs to have due process, and that he needs to return Abrego - President Trump can ignore the order - because the people being deported are dangerous criminals, because the executive says so, and he has unlimited powers.

All of that is difficult for me to handle - but it is at least arguable that non-citizens can be deported for a variety of things and the Executive can classify these people being deported and sent to prisons outside the USA, as "dangers".

However - the argument goes beyond that. At the very press conference where he said that he is not going to follow the ruling of the Supreme Court, he also says that he has his Attorney General working on finding a way to deport US citizens to foreign prisons - a prison that the Secretary of Justice in El Salvador said is not a place where people will be released. Further, that leaves US citizens in foreign prisons without any oversite.

This is a MASSIVE big deal - far bigger than Abrego not being released. The President strategically has thrown down the gauntlet to the Supreme Court, letting them know what is coming and warning them that he will not comply with their order.

Thank you for doing the leg work on this and summarizing it far better than I would have.

He wasn't a member of ms13. America gives asylum to gang members? Everything you're writing is stupid accusations that don't even have enough logic to be considered speculation

I mean now it's he fled El Salvador he must be a criminal

Jon Stuart should no better - no one thinks it will "get this authoritarian, this fast".

It is always a series of small steps in quick time, and it always is faster than expected - which is why it works.

It is like putting a frog in an ice water bath and then turning the stove on low -

It's like turning it on low and simmering for 10 minutes, then blasting it at high for 30 seconds and it panics and realizes something is really freaking wrong and then it goes back down but to medium low instead of low and simmers for another 10 minutes until this process repeats until the stove continually blasts high until the frog dies.

There will be certain areas of the country where impact of a fascist takeover will not be felt for a long time like very homogenous upper middle class white suburbs.
