Negotiations between Iran, US due to start Saturday
Negotiations between Iran and the US are due to start Saturday in Oman, though the sides are still fighting over whether the negotiators will be direct or indirect with Oman as a mediator.

The last serious nuclear negotiations between Iran, the US, and any mediators took place in late 2023 before Hamas’s October 7 invasion.

After the massacre, the Biden administration did not view negotiations as politically viable.

Upon entering office, the Biden administration had said it was committed to renewing the 2015 nuclear deal that Trump had helped unravel during his first term after a 2018 Mossad operation revealed a variety of Iranian lies regarding its nuclear program.

 

The Deal:
Trump: No more nukes

Iran: Hmmm. Yes more nukes.

Trump: Please give me a win.

Iran: Ok. Nukes, but you give us sanction relief and we let you build big mega trump tower.

Trump: Oh okay good deal

Clearly Iran didn’t try hard enough.

 

I was hoping for a peaceful revolution in Iran but I guess the Mullahs stay in power and we miss out on a war that kills the oil production of the entire Middle East.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused US President Donald Trump of dishonesty and power abuse, marking the latest rhetorical flare-up between Tehran and the US.

“Trump said he wants to use power for peace; he lied,” Khamenei said in remarks aired Saturday on Iranian state television. “When have they ever used power to create peace?”
Khamenei’s remarks followed Trump’s tour this week of the Middle East, which included stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Speaking at an investment forum in Riyadh on Tuesday, Trump accused the Islamic Republic’s leadership of corruption and “stealing their people’s wealth” to fund terrorism.
“Some of the remarks made during the US president’s trip to the region aren’t even worth responding to,” Khamenei said. “The level of the statements is so low that they are a source of shame for the speaker and a source of shame for the American people.”

 

The Iran nuclear deal is going to fail. Iran insists on preserving its rights to enrich uranium and the US red line is back to no enrichment at all.

When it does fail, we will see Israel and the US bombing Iran’s nuclear sites up to the destruction of the modern Iranian nationstate like we saw in Iraq and now in Syria. Or if the bombing campaign is unsuccessful, we see a nuclear Iran who will retaliate against anyone associated with the US or Israel. No winning outcomes here.


But neither outcome leads to a liberal, free Iran.



This is discounting clandestine operations like making sure the next ayatollah is US friendly. But this is not 1953 Project Ajax where the masses were still peasants and Iran was emerging from its version of feudalism.
