Except the starting PG's defense is a key for protecting our starting C. I think a lot of people are unaware of what's going on defensively. We ask our PG and SF to be EXTRA aggressive in denying the ball and preventing penetration. The perimeter defenders are playing at a massive disadvantage defensively - most playoff teams have a rim protector to whom they can funnel some drives. We can't do that. Sengun is not a top 10 defensive C in just any system. This defensive system is custom built for him. The slower pace helps him defend. He struggles to defend a lot more in high pace and space. We did the right thing but don't be fooled. It's critical that the FVV replacement is a good defender. If you want better offense, you have to get as good a defender as Fred who is also offensively better. To do that you need to pay up in picks. On top of that Harden needs 3 shooters and a rim runner. That's the system. He'd be his worst self on our team. Pointless to acquire him. Get a guy who can be useful without the ball in his hands on both ends of the court.
Why are we talking about Harden? You know who else would be a missing piece to our defense, Jokic? How about Giannis? Wait, SGA is the missing piece to our defense. Yes, that's it! There, fixed it. /thread
FVV’s replacement is Amen and he’s a very good defender. We only need a backup combo guard in the off-season and it can be Fred if he will commit to it. All the talk of Harden is just foolish. He wanted a 5 year max contract to join us and that was an absolute no go. All the other talk about who would be better for the team is meaningless. Our adds should be one backcourt player that can shoot and defend and 1 PF/C type to add to the rotation of Sengun, Tari, Brooks, and Jabari. If we sign Adams that is fine, but we need insurance for that. People forget the injury concerns around Tari and Adams.
Rockets should go after Kyrie. Let FVV go. Let Landale go. Start Kyrie Amen Jabari Brooks Sengun Bench Green to supplement poor shots at this time. Tari Cam Another big
I think Amen gives us way more options than that. Could add a two way PF easily. Could add a combo guard. Amen is going not going to be guarding whoever FVV was guarding. That's going to be a new guard or Jalen. It's your defense that determines your position. I think you're thinking of offense - where it doesn't matter what your position is. The offense is going to be split with the Sengun and Green so offensively Amen's role will be very different than FVV. Green's passing in the second half of the season and Sengun's annual improvement will be important factors. We'll need a lot more attack and a less laid back playmaking (than FVV) from Amen. I don't expect Amen to be an 8 assists and 2 TO's guy, not should he be. It would be a massive mistake to not acquire a big shooter, but I'm not sweating it because I know the playoffs are going to make that problem hurt and the team will oblige. We will need a guy who can make pull up 3's, not just catch and shoot 3's.
Sure absolutely, this is a great trade for when Irving returns from his torn ACL in March 2026 at age 33
