If this is intended to move manufacturing into the US, then what's with the capitulation to with the exceptions? If I was looking to invest in domestic manufacturing, how can I have any certainty of a landscape with massive tariffs that change multiple times a week with Trump boasting about everyone calling him to make a deal. So if a deal is made, then no tariffs?
Don't be silly. If Trump cared about manufacturing the first thing he wouldn't have done is attempt to veto the CHIPS act and revese all the progress we saw under biden. This is all about who can pay Trump for "exemptions" to his tariffs while he lines up his pockets with $$. No corporation is going to make long term commitments when Trump changes his policy every day.
Was disappointed he caved so his wealthy tech friends could keep up their 200% profit margins using child slave labor. Apple would still be wildly profitable without foxconn slaves - but unparalleled greed is publicly allowed when you virtue signal. He should have discussed it with them before he was inaugurated and given them a timeline to make the transition. Jumping in abruptly doesn't work in capitalist societies.
I have been very open minded on this second Trump administration and even applauded them for tackling issues that both parties tend to conveniently ignore - however when it comes to tariffs, this has been a disaster and there is no consistency or consistent message. At this point the only strong conclusion that can be drawn is that Trump and his handlers don’t know what they are doing on this topic.
That's the main thing. You can't be a serious person and Trump defender on this issue. It's about trade imbalance? Then don't tariff the places we have surpluses with. Don't ignore our services surplus. If it's about bringing back manufacturing, then why all the changes and exceptions? Why boast about countries wanting to negotiate? There's no coherent message. Have a coherent message and debate the merits of it. We can't even get to that point. Only unserious people are buying the BS being served here by the admin.
I'm just curious but what things is he doing that both parties ignored? Water pressure in the shower?
Tariffing Canada because of all the Narcos sending their drugs to the US, according to the Trump admin, with no end goal to reverse it unless Canada buys more American drugs? I have a hard time following the flips and lies on this subject.
But wasnt he talking about China? Which gets confusing because there were already tariffs on China, so I didn't know what we actually charge for Chinese goods anymore.
Honestly I looked for things and only thing that stood out to me.. Signed executive orders aimed at lowering prescription drug prices, building on first-term efforts. Pushed for transparency in healthcare pricing to empower consumers.
ANOTHER massive investment in America. Technology should be made in America -- not Taiwan or China -- to protect national security interests, remain a leader in the space, and grow our economy. This is yet another investment in America that would never have happened without Trump's push. Many new jobs in Houston, too. GOOD DAY Nvidia to mass produce AI supercomputers in Texas as part of $500 billion U.S. push Nvidia, the chipmaker that powers much of today’s artificial intelligence boom, on Monday announced a push to produce NVIDIA AI supercomputers entirely in the U.S. for the first time. The company said it plans to produce up to $500 billion of AI infrastructure in the U.S. via its manufacturing partnerships over the next four years. “Adding American manufacturing helps us better meet the incredible and growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, strengthens our supply chain and boosts our resiliency,” CEO Jensen Huang said. The news comes after President Donald Trump, in a push to take on trade deficits and pressure companies to on-shore more manufacturing to the U.S., imposed high “reciprocal” tariffs on a long list of countries. Trump placed a 32% tariff on products from Taiwan, where Nvidia largely manufactures its graphics processing units, or GPUs, and 145% tariffs on products from China, a move that threatened to take a toll on tech giants like Apple, which makes iPhones and most of its other products in China. But things changed quickly: On Friday evening, Trump exempted chips, as well as smartphones, computers, and other tech devices and components, from the tariffs. On Sunday, he reportedly said he would announce tariffs on imported semiconductors within the week. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/14/nvidia-to-mass-produce-ai-supercomputers-in-texas.html
I did not say that I agreed with how he has tackled issues - only that he addressed issues that both parties have avoided. Examples would be immigration, the Panama Canal, Greenland, Fentanyl coming in from China. I don't agree with how he has gone about many issues. I didn't say he has done anything to help the majority of people - I have been very critical of the majority of his moves, and have said that he has hurt everyone except the absolute wealthiest in the USA.
The handling of tarrifs and the US economy has been, quite frankly, reckless and poorly thought out. The fact that the President changed his position on electronics at the last minute conveys a message to the world that his administration has not planned this out and lacks either the focus or understanding of world trade markets globally. Again - I have had strong opinions on topics in the past, and have in hindsight have realized that either my perspective was wrong or my view of the topic wasn't inclusive enough of all the factors. A classic example being the Arab Spring and Syria. As a result I try very hard to be open to multiple view points, and can even understand the Administrations frustration with Panama or even certain parts of foreign trade -- but global tariffs are a massive topic with enormous consequences and I do not see this administration doing anything that gives me the slightest amount of confidence that they know what they are doing on trade or dealing with the invasion of Ukraine. You aren't the only one that doesn't know - the President and most of those around him apparently do not know either. This isn't something you can half ass spitball like you can on a reality show or when you are selling steaks on television.
