    Yes, I think it would hurt the poor in the near term. Though it would probably hurt the middle class more. But, even the poor want to buy more things than food. In the long run, market forces would move the wages of low-paying jobs up to reproductive levels (that is, enough money for workers to work and have children so you can get more workers), so it's not about making their poverty more abject. Its more about the social justice of letting the rich prosper so much and pay so little for the maintenance of the system that keeps them rich.

    You dont know this, what was being done was leading this country into bankruptcy. It was past time to do something new and of course some people are going to be hurt when you try to change 50 years of mismanagement. I'm confident we as a country will be better off in the long run. BTW, you didn't answer my question, do you believe in socialism?
