I think there is some manipulation going on for sure, the market was begging him and gave him an off ramp many times. I do think a few key folks may have been in his ear saying this isn't going well and he caved. If you want to negotiate you do that u front, not impose the tariffs, crash the market and they say oh , "my bad" ........................he is an egotistical maniac, who doesn't know the art of the deal. he knows the art of the grift This whole China tantrum is ridiculous, were not making iPhones here that cost $3500 if we made them....................Bro, we don't make things here because LABOR is too high, we don't have all the "parts" and we cant grow coffee and bananas, plus I wont get my jeans for $50 if there made here.............Americans are not going to pay 10-50% on an item when we can get it elsewhere for cheaper. You know for someone who "knows the most about tariffs" Trump sure struggles staying consistent. If I didn't believe he was playing 16D chess I would think he is clueless. I would venture to guess that this will not be the last time we have major market swings like the last couple of days. Most good businesses avoid unpredictability. . . . . . Could explain all those bankruptcy's for Trump.
This was the plan all along. Crazy tariffs announced, “pause” was baked into the plan w announcement of countries coming to him blah blah blah. Then he will talk tough, bluster more, then lie about “concessions” he gets, declare himself the greatest. the fly in the ointment is China. He knows they won’t budge. How will he declare victory? Is this when he sells off Taiwan?

China won't ditch Russia.... but the EU is still a single market of 450 million that does hold some sway while China still hasn't developed a similar middle class and is very dependent on exports. EU issues are structural with how the EU is governed, not because of laziness and neglect....
