Rest In Peace Octavio https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...mlb-dominican-nightclub-collapse/82993825007/ Octavio Dotel, a major league pitcher for 15 seasons, died Tuesday from injuries sustained when the roof of a nightclub in the Dominican Republic collapsed, a spokesman for the country's sports ministry confirmed. At least 44 people are dead and more than 130 were injured after the roof of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo crumbled during a performance by merengue singer Rubby Perez. Authorities were still searching the rubble on Tuesday.
OMG I idolized that guy when I was a teenager. RIP. Loved when he took over the closer's role when Wags went down in 2000.
Sad news First player to pitch at Daikin Park Supposedly Nelson Cruz's sister also died in this incident.
RIP He was 1/3 of one of the greatest 1-2-3 bullpen combos ever. Lidge, Dotel, Wagner was quite the three headed monster.
I remember how things just clicked for him when Dierker said enough making him a starter and moved him to the pen, and he just started mowing down batters ever since. He was one of the guys we got back for the Mike Hampton trade, so it was great seeing him perform at such a high level.
Maybe a name the younger folks won’t know, but was once a fantastic player for the early days of the post-Astrodome Houston Astros
Yep. Back in those days, the goal was to have the lead after 6 innings. The game was a wrap after that with 7/8/9 coming up. RIP Octavio.
Don't be disingenuous https://www.baseball-almanac.com/box-scores/boxscore.php?boxid=200004070HOU If Doc played in an exhibition game, say that. But this thread is about a former Astro who died -- who also has special caveat regarding the team.
