Denver Nuggets Fire Head Coach Michael Malone After 10 Seasons

It seems like the leash for championship-winning coaches is shorter than ever. We're in an era of extreme parity in the NBA and I wonder if that shortens front offices' tolerance of coaches and their personalities? Here's a list of recent champion coaches:

2024: Joe Mazzulla, still with Boston
2023: Mike Malone, fired by Denver in 2025
2022: Steve Kerr, still with Golden State
2021: Mike Budenholzer, fired by Milwaukee in 2023
2020: Frank Vogel, fired by Los Angeles in 2022
2019: Nick Nurse, fired by Toronto in 2023
2018: Steve Kerr
2017: Steve Kerr
2016: Ty Lue, fired by Cleveland in 2018

Prior to Lue, no championship-winning-coach was fired for a long time. Rick Carlisle stayed with Dallas for 11 years after winning the title.

 

You still don’t fire a man for that. You have a meeting and air **** out. If players turned their backs on him then shame on them.

 

While this is complete rumour and speculation, at least it would make sense of what just happened.

If Murray said "I won't play again while he is coach" then firing the coach is an option with the playoffs around the corner.

[Charania] The Nuggets were likely going to fire one or the other of Michael Malone and Calvin Booth this offseason, but decided to get over with now. Malone likely would have been fired back in 2023 had they not won the championship that year, due to the conflict between him and Booth.

I mean that’s fair, can’t really argue with it. If i had to hire one i would take nico though, the owner can just not allow him to trade luka. What booth has done the last 2 years is disgraceful though, because he is ruining nba history.
