Just can never quite seem to knock down that door. Choke job for the ages. Although I will admit those 3 foul calls against us in the span of 9 seconds was sus.
As bad as the offense was at times, it was the lack of focus down the stretch on defense that was absolutely killer. Kept getting a 3 point lead and then immediately florida scores right back. The refs obviously completely flipped the game. Whistle got insanely tight against Houston, all the bigs playing with 4 fouls. Just ridiculous. But I think 1 or 2 stops in that last 3 mins stretch and it would have been enough. Just horrible, pathetic execution when trailing late though. Turnover, turnover, turnover. Cryer was definitely fouled on that last drive to the basket, but they didn’t call it, florida immediately gets a foul call going the other way. It was a ****ing screw job. But Coogs still had a chance to win it and blew it in just as grand of fashion as they won against Duke. Horrible.
That was beyond sad that they couldn’t get a shot attempt off at the end. If they were going to lose, why did it have to be to an obnoxious team like Florida? Sigh
It was a good physical refs-not-taking-over type of game. Took me back to my days of watching 80s/90s NBA games. Once our bigs got into foul trouble and the Gators switched to a 3 guard lineup to swarm and stay on Cryer, Sharp and Uzan, we couldn't handle it. Congrats to the Gators.
College ball is ugly. Man the Cougars were just awful offensively. Florida wasn't much better, but got their **** together in the 2nd half. There is some ugly basketball in the NBA for sure, but this was an ugly game to watch.
When Tim Tebow started going inside the paint when UH had a 10 point lead, it was over. They went clueless, they couldn't stop Tebow from going into the paint. Shooting 35% is not going to win any NBA, WNBA, YMCA. much less a championship game. I feel bad for the players they will always had that feeling they had it and choked it.
Far be it from me to critique a team that nearly won it all, but...unless you NEED a three, never ever ever run a play that goes away from the basket. You can't run a three man weave above the break with a bleeding clock and be surprised when that sh|t gets blown up.
I love Cryer, but he was throwing up some straight bullsh*t all these unnecessary trojan horse shot attempts and silly turnovers from the entire team
Was there ever any thought of trying to go for 2 at the end to force overtime? Trying to win it with a 3 at the end is going to go down as one of the dumbest coaching decisions ever.
I had a bad feeling that we wouldn't even get the shot off. You can point to a million things but Cryer stepping out of bounds, then Cryer losing the ball, and then Sharp turning it over at the end. All of that down the stretch. Also the point blank unchallenged missed dunk by Francis. The missed free throws by sharp and cryer. All the bunnies missed around the basket by Roberts and others. It was really just the worst thing ever. Lost by 2 and definitely beat ourselves. Another wasted opportunity and another one that will hurt forever.
Florida was great and they handled their business that second half. We usually hit enough timely shots to win these type of games but credit to Florida for their defense. It is what it is.
From an extreme high to a gut wrenching loss. I should be used to it by now as a Houston sports fan but this one hurt. I feel so bad for the players and coach though. They were so damn close to winning it all.
there were 27 fouls called in the second half. I think 16 on Houston. Is that what you call refs not taking over?
I thought that had control of the game before the whistles. 19 (Hou) to 9 (FL) is pretty alarming for a title game. That goaltend not called in the first ends up being significant too.
