Yes Trump's trying to downsize the federal govt. He doesn't believe contractors should be mandated to pay $17.75 an hour on federal contracts. I agree with this because I dont believe the federal govt should be in the business of mandating how much a business owner should have to pay their employees.

Also I find this article to not be true because the UAW is backing Trump.

Dude, the rich pay -- and should pay -- a lot more in income and capital gains tax than you could ever wring out of them with a sales tax. Yes, sales taxes are harder to dodge than income tax, but they aren't dodging the income tax so well that we're somehow better off resorting to a sales tax.

I don't think this is where Trump is going with this, but I could consider a consumption tax (be it sales, VAT, or tariff) as the entirety of the tax burden on low and middle income, and then a more steeply progressive income and capital gains (and maybe asset) tax on the wealthy. They are rich because they live in a society that makes it possible for them to be rich. They should have a larger responsibility than others for maintaining the operation of this society that sustains them in lavish wealth.

DOGE's gains aren't from making existing services more efficient but by cutting services. It's like saying you wrangled a better price on pants by buying shorts.

I'm all for the rich paying more.
    Buuuuttt......
If you have the correct folks working the books profits can be shown as less than they are.

My brother in law is the man in Buffalo if you need an ATM.
Dude makes close to 400k a year. Somehow he pays less than I do in taxes yearly.

    Came here to post this.

Protests are totally impotent if the protestors don't vote. I'll bet you more than half these people didn't.

I don't think these are the people that didn't vote.

My wife wanted to go to the one in Conroe but I didn't really see the point. First, it's Montgomery County...who's mind do you think you're going to change? 2nd...I'm already against maga and trumpybaby, so what else do I need? 3rd...it's not going to do a f***ing thing nationally. I guess it made some people feel better.

It's a lot more than just mandated pay for federal contracts, but you keep believing he isn't stripping union and worker rights, and doesn't have anti-union billionaires in his close circle cheering it on.

Absolutely. But raining threes has taken this idea too much to heart and concluded the rich aren't paying anything and it's only the middle class supporting the country. And that isn't true.

The following image is from an advocacy org arguing that the rich pay too much in taxes, but I see no reason to disbelieve their data:

Sure, there is a healthy tax-avoidance industry aimed at reducing the tax burden for the top quintile, but they still do the heavy lifting on taxes. Which is what I want to see. According to this website, the top quintile pays ~70% of all federal taxes. We aren't going to be able to collect that much from them with a sales tax.

A republican sees the above graph and says, my god, why do they take so much from the hard-working job-creating heroes of our economy. I see that graph as a reflection of how much the lowest quintile is exploited and neglected that we have to give them each $5,200 a year just to keep them alive. It's offputting to see we run an economy in which the government must intervene this much to mitigate the exploitation of the poor by the rich. Trump's vision is to not only save that $5,200 but to also charge 10%+ of their $16k annual average household income so he can reduce that $931k tax bill for the top 1%.

I don't like any of her policies that she suggested (after initially not having any) or her in general. I just can't stand her in general would be an honest answer

 I didn't make the chart. I found it with a little googling to demonstrate a particular point -- that federal tax collection from the rich would decline if we funded it on a flat sales tax instead of a progressive income tax, as raining threes was suggesting. I did not share it to make a treatise on what a socially just tax policy would be.

If you want to make a treatise, I'll peruse your charts with great interest.

You have no way to pair the participants of these protests with the voter rolls. So, with no disrespect intended honestly, you're talking out of your ass here.

Here's one article on the subject, though it's from 2017, arguing that protesters are as likely or more likely to vote than non-protesters: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news.../06/people-who-protest-almost-certainly-vote/

They are useless, all they have done is cut services. USAID IS FOR SOFT POWER YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND. And just being compassionate in general. And the amount that he cut DOES NOT EVEN PUT A BLIMP IN THE DEFICIT ESPECIALLY WITH THE TAX CUTS. You are a middle class person who votes against the middle class.

Its all there for history to look at it dude. You can tell me it was republican congress but the fact is, republican congress has never been able TO **** without a democratic president. All republicans have to their name is tax cuts, show me literally anything else. 90% tax on income over 3 million. I dont want to talk about socialism as itts outside the scope of this argument, Ill SETTLE FOR NORMALCY.

All republicans do is make people's lives worse, that is all they have ever done.

How much would you say would be enough for the rich.

It's not cutting services. It's cutting employees and streamlining services. Like the state department taking over managing USAiD, which was long overdue.

Speaking of history I remember a time when we weren't shipping money that we don't have around the world. I'm glad somebody finally had the balls to take on the bureaucracy and I hope they cut it to the bone. No more Vindmans/Stroke/Pages of the world.
